mredskins 08-27-2007, 03:39 PM bottom left. It's all the way through and not impacted at all.
The jaw I am sorry to say is the hard one to get but, on the bright side getting the needle in your jaw gums is much easier then in the roof of your mouth.
Outside of the shoot none of it really hurts to be honest. You are sore afterwards around your mouth from all the tugging. If you can do it without getting put under that is your best choice for a speedy recover.
After they pull it be prepared to have gauze in your mouth for the next hour. I hope you like the taste of blood. Here is a hint take like three advils before hand this way it gives you some time when you are waiting for the pain killers to kick in after the pull.
Overall the process is pretty painless, it just more the recover and inconvince of not being able to chew stuff that is the pain. Don't let that cavity go! That is where the really pain is, one of my wisdoms was apseits (sp) and it felt like a hornets nest was lodge up in my jaw!
Also last word, keep that area clean after the pull! You don't want dry socket to occur, which is a whole another story.
RobH4413 08-27-2007, 03:40 PM I've got two impacted and the others just need to come out. I'm getting them done in a couple of weeks and really not looking forward to it.
My cousin just had his down with only the local anesthetic, and they only gave him Tylenol with codeine which apparently sucks. I'm really not very squeamish when it comes to things like this, but I'd really prefer to be knocked out.
As long as they give me something better than Tylenol with codeine... I guess it won't be too bad.
Maybe I should buy a 360 before I get them done so I've got something to do while incapacitated.
Do they still give laughing gas? I could go for some of that rather than getting knocked out cold. I'll just get a few balloons filled up and I'll be ready to go! ;)
jbcjr14 08-27-2007, 03:46 PM I had 4 that were impacted and they needed to be cut out. The actual procedure doesn't hurt because I was out cold. The couple days after the fact is what hurts. It's manageable though! Don't be a puss (hehehehe). Seriously, its not too horrible but I would be lying to you if I said it didn't hurt for a few days.
mooby 08-27-2007, 03:53 PM I went to the dentist for a cleaning today and it turns out I have a cavity in one of my wisdom teeth, and the dentist suggests getting it pulled vs. getting it filled since it's a 'non-functional tooth' as he put it.
Give me the truth, how much does getting a tooth pulled really hurt? Do they knock you out for it? I'm really not looking forward to this.
I had to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed before I got braces. Trust me it doesn't hurt. My mom wouldn't let them give me anything before they pulled the first two because she's all anti-drugs, so i got to experience what it was like wide awake. All they do is put a little clamp thingy in your mouth, and they grab and wiggle and wiggle some more until it's finally loose enough to take it out. I felt some minor pain but it wasn't anything a grown man can't handle. The only thing that sucks is you can't eat for like a day, and they put this big cotton ball in the big gap where the tooth was, and I had to keep my mouth pressed closed to hold the cotton ball in place to soak up the blood.
Lady Brave 08-27-2007, 03:59 PM I had two taken out on the right side when I was a teenager. They knocked me out for it. Also, my mouth is relatively small inside, so the dentist ended up stretching it too far and now my jaw has a weird shift to it and kind of pops when I close it. I also developed dry socket which literally brought me to tears a few times. Needless to say, vicodin was my best friend during that whole ordeal.

DRY SOCKET IS THE WORST PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

I got laughing gas and novacaine for a couple canines that were pulled, but that was over 10 years ago. I didn't feel anything, and I got to witness the entire procedure. It's just like Mooby says, some wiggling and pulling -- but these were not my wisdom teeth, mind you.
When I got my wisdom teeth pulled (about 7 years ago), they just put me under with general anesthetic. What they use, and how they do it probably depends on the doctor you go to, and your insurance. I'm willing to bet that you could find a doctor who will use the anesthesia you want.

So you got a tooth yanked without even some novocaine??
My head hurts just thinking about that.
ArtMonkDrillz 08-27-2007, 07:30 PM I think my only complaint about getting my wisdom teeth removed is that my mom is a nurse and she controlled my pain medication as such. She hid the bottle like I was a fiend and only ever gave me the recommended dosage. That was annoying.
