Being a contractor is not what you may think. Civilian Government employee is the way to go. Retire after 20 years and then go into the private sector. While being a contractor has it's share of intrigue, as soon as the contract is up you may find yourself looking for a job with another company. I am a Contractor and I am busting my ass to get a Government job. I would hate to waste 9 years I have already put towards a Federal retirement.
Yeah, GS would be a good way to go. My wife and I are both IT and we want to get into the Fed system, possibly for DOD overseas.
She's got her Top Secret clearance, I have Secret... we're both veterans. You'd think we'd be in already but we're waiting for her to graduate.
