You're unrealistic. There simply aren't enough quality players in the league, or enough room under the salary cap, for the team to have THREE LEGIT OPTIONS at LG.

They had Wade, a talented career-starter at T, who could make the switch. They had Whitticker, a huge body in the mold of Dockery, 340-350 pounds. And you want them to have a 3rd G option either with Wade's athleticism or Whitticker's size?

That's unrealistic. I think Gibbs and Bugel looked at it from all angles, but the salary cap doesn't allow you to stack 3 great players up at every position. In the end, they're the victims of some rough luck with Whitticker's injury.

LOL seriously.

I guarantee that if the Patriots were down to their 3rd option at LG, they would be hurting too.

Its not unrealistic when you are asking a career tackle in Wade to totally change positions and he struggles very very early on. What he's saying is that if the front office would have used a 4-5 rounder on a decent o-lineman sometime over the past 4 years, then we would be in a better position. Wade struggled from the get go, and to say "he could make the switch" just because he was a big guy who played tackle, that was unrealistic. Saying we ever had 3 legit LGs, that seems way, way off.

In hindsight it's unrealistic. It seemed reasonable at the time. You wouldn't substitute your judgement about offensive line for Gibbs' or Bugel's would you? Everybody's a genius after the fact.

Why did we need to draft a G with a 4th or 5th rounder when we found a guy with Whitticker's size & talent without having to spend a draft pick?

I can see the point on Wade, but it's not like he was the only option.

Besides, what guarantee do you have that said 4th or 5th rounder would fare any better than Todd Wade?

What did Whitticker ever show besides practice? Taylor Jacobs tore it up in practice too. Whitticker must not have been that awesome if he couldn't stick with the Packers, I mean he may have shown something in practice but to say he was a legitimate LG in this league is a stretch.

I mean, looking back Gibbs and Company had plans to replace Dockery with Whitticker, who I'll give you by reports tore it up in practice but couldn't stick with the lowly Packers, and Wade, a guy who was changing positions. So to say all was well at LG until Whitticker went down isn't exactly accurate.

Wade is huge and athletic, if Bugel said he could turn him into a guard then I'll have to go with Bugel. Whitticker doesn't get hurt and we get to see what he could do in games, but right now all we have to go by is practice reports.

I love these 13 pages by the way, great toilet reading!

Anyone know what becomes of Whittiker?
I know he's cut and has a high ankle sprain...I think those are 6 week injuries.
Any chance of the skins picking him back up week 3 or so?
Or are we set at guard?

What are your thoughts?

I was surprised they cut Whitticker, could they have put him on the IR or do you think they were hoping to pick him up later?
