Let's keep in mind guys there is still the possibitily of us getting the pick back in exchange for either Collins or Brunell. So hold on to your hats ladies and gents, and it aint over till the phat lady sings!

I'm with you on the point of not getting ourselves into this position in the first place. How many 2nd and 3rd round picks have we pissed away over the past few years which could have helped with the transition of replacing guys like Dockery or Jon Jansen?

Still, we're usually dumping 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks for guys like this. I'm not too bummed out about giving up a 5th rounder here. I can live with that sort of trend.

Yeah, I think people that are shaking their head about this manuever aren't doing so based on the trade itself, but rather how we got to this point. I know lots of people on here don't want to look back in time, and want to live in the moment. The problem with that is, if the Skins don't learn from their history, they are destined to repeat it. The Skins have a horrible history of pissing away draft picks, not sigining their own homegrown talent, and paying too much for free agents. If the front office drafts some lineman OR signs Dockery early on to an extension rather than waiting to the last minute to enter the bidding, then we wouldn't be put into a position where whe HAVE to make a move to acquire a LG. The same thing is happening to Cooley, they haven't gotten a deal done, so Cooley could very well hit the open market. If that happens, Cooley is gone. Then we're talking about trading a 4th or a 3rd for a TE next year.

Err...I have serious doubts whether someone is actually going to give us anything higher than a 6th for Brunell and no one is going to give us squat for Collins.

Pro Bowl caliber compensation??

Honestly, where do people get this crap? So let me get this straight, because Steve McNair and Trent Green were dealt for 5th round picks, suddenly the going rate for a pro-bowl player in this league is a 5th round pick?

Age has more to do with it than anything. Steve McNair and Trent Green are AT BEST average QBs in this league right now, with one foot out the door towards retirement. Pete Kendall is an average guard in this league, with one foot out the door towards retirement. They're worth the same in terms of draft picks because Kendall takes up a lot less cap space than McNair and Green do.

Yeah I'd rather have a solid LG in camp back in July, but we didn't. This is making the best of a tough situation.

I got it from this mornings Post. If he plays 80% of the plays it becomes a 4th round pick and I am sure he will play 80%.

I agree this is making the best of a bad situation but the skins should not be in this situation. This is what happens when you give away draft picks over time. Unfortunately the Skins just cant learn their lesson and now they appear caught in a cycle of not having players (they drafted) in place when needed so they have to resort to signing old players and giving away the future in the form of draft picks.

They are not worth the same in terms of draft picks. A starting QB even of "average" ability, goes for more than a starting LG of average ability. The Skins just got caught by the short and curlys and HAD to pay this much.

It's completely understandable to look at past moves and wish we weren't in this situation now, but the fact is the past cannot be changed and the present is what it is. Worrying about the past doesn't win us any games this season.

Ultimately, this move will be graded on what happens on the field.

My main problem with the people who are woulda, coulda, shouldaing, is that I don't remember hearing anybody, ANYBODY crowing about how LG was going to be a problem back in March when we let Dock go and decided to shift Wade.

The reason for that? Shifting Wade to LG seemed like a perfectly reasonable solution at the time, he's a great athlete. I didn't hear anybody warning us that LG would be a major problem; the only hesitation people expressed was regarding Wade's height and not getting leverage on short-yardage plays.

The Skins didn't just ignore LG. They had a reasonable plan, it was Wade. They even had a plan B which many of you (including La Canfora) seem to be forgetting: WILL WHITTICKER. He was mauling in camp before he tore his ACL. The coaches loved the kid. Are you going to fault the Skins for lack of foresight because the ace up their sleeve got hurt?

Seems like a bunch of hindsight is 20/20 crap to me.

It's a no win situation with some people. If they don't pick up Kendall, those same people would be bitching during the season that they should have made a move.

I know very little about this Kendall fella, but what I know is that he is pretty solid. Which is what we need. The only way I would opose this move is if we had a young guy who wasn't going to get reps because of this.

To be clear, I don't think anyone is bitching about the move to pick up Kendall, it HAD to be done. I think the reservations some of us have is what steps led to the decision that it had to be done. Kendall is solid, I don't doubt that, what is in doubt is the decisions leading up to this point. I hope Kendall has a great year, I think after a month or so he'll be up to speed, but Im never happy about burning up a draft pick for 1 or 2 years of service from an aging vet if it could have been prevented in the offseason.
