I like the idea of a sub-forum for free agent talk, once a guy actually signs then talk can move over to the locker room.
Also noticed they have the same mentality when it comes to other teams cuts - once a guy gets cut its all "we should go get him", so its not necessarily a Skins thing.

Godfrey has the nickname "Hitman" according to one poster, seems like we will be resting our laurels on being a hard hitting, punishing D this year.

The eagles also released Trotter today. Wouldn't surprise me to see Marshall in an Eagles uniform...

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I remember a few seasons ago, I was watching a Sunday night game against the Titans, I think. Mike Patrick apparently talked to Randall Godfrey and made it a point to say that Godfrey had something of a personal vendetta against the Redskins. Said he's never liked them, that when he played for the Cowboys the Skins would run the score up on them. Whenever Godfrey got a chance to go against the Redskins he'd make it a point to play them "extra" tough.

I guess Godfrey has buried the hatchet.

I think we are overanalyzing this. The simplest answer to why he got cut is that he was outplayed in camp.

This offseason, we've made a significant effort to find LBs who are good vs. the pass. Fletcher, we made a run at Briggs, drafting Sartz and Blades, two very underrated cover LBs, who dropped due to size. For two straight years now, Marshall has been awful against the pass. While his prowess against the run could have justified the 4th LB spot, its possible he didn't "fit" our new defense.

Good points. The writing should have been on the wall when they drafted all of those linebackers this year.

I'm not saying that Marshall deserved to start or was some stud, but I do remember a lot of big plays.

#1. In Week 16 of the 2005 season, Drew Bledsoe threw a pass over the middle to Witten and Marshall tipped the ball into Marcus Washington's hands, who then ran about 40 yards downfield.

#2. In Week 17 of the 2005 season, Eli Manning threw a pass to Shockey and Marshall picked the pass and ran do the Giants' 20 yard line.

#3. In Week 7(?) of the 2005 season, Marshall picked off a pass by Kerry Collins and scampered into the endzone for a TD.

I'm sure there are more, but he was a playmaker in 2005.

Yes, those were all good plays, but do we keep players endlessly based on how they performed 2 seasons ago?

Exactly.

I think the coaches might have had some flashbacks to Holdman getting run over all last year and they didn't want to see the same thing happening to Marshall if he had to play for MW. At 230 pounds I wouldn't have wanted to see him playing the strongside for any significant amount of time.

Sheriff we played the giants in week 16 of the 2005 season and dont for get his acrobatic interception in week 17 against the Eagles which lead to a portis 22 yard td on the next play.

Aren't they paying Godfrey more than Marshall?

Yep, about 300K more. So it definitely wasn't a cap move.

I'll bet Marshall ends up playing in the NFC East this year. What a shame.

I'll bet Godfrey is more effective at stopping the run. We have a good number of guys that can play pass defense but not enough run-stoppers. I like this move, just not on any particularly high level of importance. I rank this at #24 on my list of pertinent roster changes for this year.

I never bet because I'm sort of cheap but I might actually be willing to put money on Marshall going to Philly.
