So, on all passes where Godfrey was determined to be the defender the average was 4.5 yards? Is that what it means?Yeah. Incomplete equal to zero, obviously.

Come on guys. Lets look at this in a positive manner. Did anyone see Marshall try to ARM tackle over and over again against the Steelers just for them to break the tackle? Did anyone see him lead with his shoulder the one that was hurt last year? I didn't. Marshall is not young, Godfrey is a Bigger LB who is a veteran and started for SD last year. He is a one year Backup, who can also rush the passer. The coaches seem to be impressed with the Draft picks, so i'll trust their judgement. By releasing Marshall they must like Sartz who is the same size as him, but 8 years younger, I see this as a positive.

The worst thing about this whole damn trade is that my Madden 2008 rosters are already out of date.

I'm sure someone else has already mentioned this, but...
Godfrey was said to be considering retirement before the Redskins contacted him. (from ESPN.com)
Reading that doesn't exactly put me at ease.

Lemar Marshall Released

This just in on the phone from Jason:

The Redskins have released linebacker Lemar Marshall, whose production last season was affected by injuries and, consequently, had fallen somewhat out of favor with the team.
Still, he was a solid special teams guy and knew how to play every linebacker position in this defense. Privately, he had worried about his role and was uncertain about his future here, but said this morning he had not asked for a trade.
"I'm totally surprised," he said.
We'll add more as we get it.

Surprised, but GW and co very much blamed the LBs for last season--fired the coach, new MLB, start Rocky, cut Lamar, draft some new blood. We'll see!

McIntosh Showed already hes better than Marshall.Hes Speed/Awareness and Agility is better also and being a good play making Coverer and a pressure is what we needed and in 2006 draft hes was the 2nd best choice at LB.

Just Like goldston the skins know how to draft besides Taylor Jacobs ehhhhh.

It's moves like this which are why we are in the position we've been in latley...I dont get this in the slightest....without this guy, we wouldnt have made the playoffs in 2005...he made some HUGE plays for us that year while STILL playing out of position......JLC's blog said that he had not requested a trade and was "totally suprised by it", and while the success of our season didnt depend on it...if any of our LB's go down (and hey look at that MW is already hurt)...this guy can jump in at any role.....

Everything you said here is why this makes no sense to me at all. Anyone know what Godfrey is gonna be paid?

I agree 12th. Marshall, a guy who's been here and already knows the system for someone that you are hoping on not to mention a bit older than Marshall isn't that much of a brain teaser for me. Also, maybe Sartz, Blades, and the rest have turned out better than they originally thought they would be. Who knows

makes sense to me when a guy like hb blades is freaking leading the team in tackles every week, and a guy like dallas sartz is starting to show promise after coming off the hamstring injury. their wont be room for a guy like marshall. i liked the guy too but all in all this makes sense and you could see it coming ever since the preseason started, he was not even noticable in either game.

I think we can look at this move positively. GW was looking for MW to put his hand on the ground this year. Randal Godfrey can now come in and fill that wish of GW if MW is hurting for a time this season. Remember the guy came from the Chargers 3-4 as a SLB meaning he has done this in the past and made it work to some effect. I like the move and it also show some belief in the younger guys we have brought in.

This gives Lemar a chance to sign with another team. which I'm sure he will. I really just hope it isn't anyone in the NFC East (which it seems we as a whole have signed a few guys from each other rosters over the years)

We will be ok! Beside I've heard more than a few of you complaining about LM not tackling very well. This guy can come in and sure up the run defense some more.
