There are two players who would make me sick to see them in another team's colors: Cooley and Taylor.

With the way the league is today it's probably going to happen to both at some point.

Hopefully not until both are in their mid 30's and are on the decline though.

I'm not worried. Cooley will be resigned no matter what the price is. It always looks like we don't have any money to spend against the cap and Snyder always works contracts and we go shopping. :)

We were saying what's the rush with Dockery last year but as the year went on there was no news with him and we all know how that turned out. I just want to see him locked up before his price keeps going up. It'll be a lot easier to sign him right now rather than wait after the season, because if he has an awesome season he'll want more money at the end.
So you assume that his agent does not know this and maybe they told Cooley to wait!

I'm not saying anything other than what I already posted lol. Maybe his agent is telling Cooley to wait, but then again Cooley himself told the press that he's not even dealing with it, he's letting his agent handle it. Maybe Cooley really does want to go out and get a shitload of money in free agency, idk, or maybe Cooley likes being a Redskin and wants to stay here, even though he knows he can get big money elsewhere.

Is anyone else worried about the fact that Chris Cooley hasn't been extended yet?

I'm sorry, but seeing our weakened position at LG, and seeing the impact that Cooley is having in pre-season already, makes me wonder why we haven't extended Cooley yet. I mention LG because I think had we extended Dock before last season we would have been in a much better position than we currently find ourselves in.

We did a great job extending Betts and Sellers. I wonder if Cooley's agent simply isn't negotiating because he is expecting a big season from Cools?

What do you guys think?

I don't know the ins and outs of the Cooley thing, and maybe you other guys are right and it isn't the FO, but I think you are right on target with the Dockery point. JLC and the Post reported that the Skins had ridiculous offers in to Dock and pretty much insulted the guy. No one on here would have advocated signing Dock to the $49 mil that the Bills gave him (though some of us might now after watching how poorly the Skins have done at filling that position), but had they made a legit offer to Dock before or during the season we could still have him in a Skins uni.

to me, its strictly up to Cooley, and where he wants to play. the money is probably going to be close to the same everywhere. right around 5 years, 25 million. maybe around a 8-10 million dollar bonus. hopefully he wants to stay

I think if it came to the very end and nothing gets done The Skins will use the franchise tag on Cooley - they are not going to let him go as a unrestricted free agent.

As for Sean Taylor we still have a couple years on his deal so they are not going to touch him before Cooley, but I think they will get both resigned.

From JLC:

The Skins And Dock Were On Different Planets

The chasm between the Redskins and Derrick always existed, but I didn't realize just how great the difference was between their offers and Buffalo's until tonight. Howard and I spoke to some team sources and what they told us was pretty remarkable.

I'm not going to post the numbers here, but they'll be on the web later tonight I imagine as we update our stories and definitely in most editions of the paper tonight (although one edition has already gone to print by now if you can believe that).

The Bills deal was exponentially greater than anything the Redskins were dangling. Even had Dock got the kind of deal I thought he might as of Thursday afternoon - $12 mil guaranteed, $5 million ish per season - it wouldn't have been close.

I would hope they do the deal by Christmas. It really is up to Cooley. If he wants to go, he can probably get more money from someplace else. I just hope that Snyder doesn't get it into his head to be chincy with the guy. I think he has a tendency to lose sight of the big picture when the negotiations get tough. I guess this will be the great non-football sub-plot of the year. (Let's hope so anyway)
