offensive line play wasn't very good. but with 2 new starters, and the very first preseason game, thats to be expected. defense looked pretty good. flying around, and getting to the ball. i thought Fletcher and Lamar Marshall both looked good in the middle. maybe Greg Williams can use a 3-4 every once in a while. Campbell was just OK. needs to get his internal clock up to game speed. i thought both Frost and Suisham legs looked very strong. Todd Collins probably won a roster spot with his play. and mike espy probably lost one with the 2 drops

I wish we had a few young OL that we had developed the last couple of years , our starters are not that young . I would also like to see us run a 3-4 , atleast on 3rd and long's . Might have to keep both Taylor & Landry back roming middle & deep middle , giving up too much in the middle to TE's . I just hope the NFL does not let romo keep bringing his pet roaches to regular season games !

Biggest positive: Defense. Looks like we have a strong defense and good depth. Fletcher looked good, Prieleau looked healthy, DL looked 100% better than last year, secondary coverage was better. No TD's allowed (even on a couple of short fields).

Biggest negative: OL. no holes for running backs, bad pass protection. In hind site I think it was a lot to expect Heyer and Wade to work effectively together in their first real action. Samuals and Wade sounds much better to me.

Overall the offense was hit and miss. The good news is that it made Campbell get use to real pressure and hits; he has been in a hands off environment for a while now. He started moving around better as the game progressed. There were a few things he did passing that looked good (His pass to Moss was a thing of beauty). Ladell looked like he could have broken down the defense given time, but once he was pulled, the running game never got on track.

I will be looking for better offensive consistency next game.

1st Team Offense
Jason Campbell was pretty solidwith the excecption of his % and no TD passess. I am weary of him turning the ball over on fumbles. I feel that at least one of the sacks on him could have been avoided had he observed the defense and shifted protection accordingly (the fumble he lost). .

But other than that....

ARE has to catch that ball he missed.

No, Campbell shouldn't try to force passes where his receivers will get killed. He did the same thing to Espy.

our starting D looks much more improved. they werent giving up those running lanes like last year. the front 4 did a good job of playing the run last night......couple of guys who caught my eye after the starters. chris wilson #77 looks like he could rush the passer, hickman #75 looks very similar to wilson and was very heads up taking the quarterback out on that fumble(smart play there thats how you do it). #94 montgomery looked like a monster, he was killing double teams and stuffing the run all night. #54 HB Blades was all over the place last night he looked good and if he keeps playing like that he could have an impact on this years team.

Campbell looked ok. Our starting offensive line sucks, Jansen didn't look good, neither did Heyer or Wade. Our backup o-line didn't look good either. Brunell was unimpressive. Collins did decent, led our o to the only scoring drive of the night. If Collins continues to look good and Brunell looks bad, we could see Collins take the #2 spot. Our defense was by far the most impressive thing of the night, great decision to bring Fletcher in, he's a beast. Landry looked ok from what I saw, but I didn't see much of him lol. We still aren't getting any pressure from the d-line, but then again I didn't have high expectations for them to begin with.

I agree with your assesment.

Heyer and Jansen were getting thrown around all night, more so Heyer, but I guess that's excusable since he is a rookie. Hopefully, Jansen just had an off night and isn't regressing like many Warpathers were accusing him of last year. Wade look fine straight ahead, but when he tried to pull on that counter, he was so pitifully slow and couldn't set a good lead block. Jason Fabini was ridiculously bad. I don't understand why our front office recognizes the need to improve our O-line, and then goes and signs rejects from the worst lines in the league: Dallas and Houston.

Our run D was pretty stout all night. It seemed like a different LB was behind the line making a play every time the Titans tried to run, and yes, London Fletcher owned last night, great pickup! The only thing disconserting about all this is Tenn was able to convert through the air any time the Run D got them into 3rd and long situations. What's wrong with our pass D? Shawn Springs gave up the first big 3rd down conversion too. We're going to be in trouble if we keep getting gouged down the field. Oh, and Ade is gone after this preseason. During Tim Rattay's scoring drive, he targeted Ade's man on every throw and just moved it right down the field.

Laron looks good. He put KC on his butt hard on that one 3rd down play. I'm excited about him.

by the way it looked to me that lemar marshall was playing outside backer last night and HB was in the middle. anyways the comment of playing a 3-4 on third downs is not what we want....there is no reason for it, its not really a better pass D it describes the front 7 alignment, we should be in nickel or dime packages on 3rd down, if we use the 3-4, which we will in a limited use just like last year, itll be on first and second down not third down.

ade maybe gone but did you see him get 2 pancake blocks on the same guy on a punt return........he pancaked #42 Henry and the the guy got up and kept on gettin it down the field and jimoh comes over and just lays his ass out again.....the dude can play some special teams man. he wont make the team with his coverage though, hes as bad as they come at corner.

I was thinking about the game this morning, and I think here are a couple things we need to remember about last night's game. First thing, two of our starters didn't play last night, and that is enough to disrupt continuity of our offensive line. Derrick Dockery is, of course, gone to another team, and Chris Samuels was out with an injury. So, I expected our OL to not be dominate, although I was disappointed with seeing absolutely no holes opened up for our running backs.

The second thing to keep in mind is the fact that usually, the first preseason game has no real game planning. The offense is usually vanilla, and the coaches are more focused on watching their players make plays, rather than focusing on game planning.

This was the first real, true game for our OL that is trying to move on without DD and playing without CS. So, you can't really expect them to play as if they had been playing together for a few years. JB will have them ready by game one, I'm sure of that.

Jason Campbell continues to impress me. Some people said he played like crap, and I guess that's because we didn't score any TDs while he was in, and he fumbled twice. However, looking at the big picture, Campbell is showing poise. He's not staring down one receiver and he's definitely not automatically dumping it off ala Mark Brunell. There were some nice passes that were dropped. Yeah, there were a few passes that got away from him, but all in all, I'm confident that Jason Campbell is our guy. This is his first full year as a starter, so I am expecting him to make some great plays, yet still show some room for improvement.

When we get Chris Samuels and Clinton Portis back, we'll be good to go.
