It's just as well, the guy shouldn't hit the field until the Raiders get some help up front (i.e., next season). As their line currently stands, Russell would get the piss knocked out of him by week 2.

I am trying to understand how they have offensive line problems when the have used 8 draft picks in the last 5 drafts to address the offensive line. Half of them were 1st day picks.

When it comes to the O Line, you really just have to trust majority opinion. I know of no cutting edge analysis that can give scouts an edge. It tends to be a pretty easy position to evaluate, but at times, majority opinion misses badly. The Raiders just got the short end of the stick about 3-5 times.

Tough luck.

That would explain how our Undrafted Rookie FA T Heyer slipped through the cracks, but I still cannot understand how it happend to them so many times. Common sense would tell you to find new offensive line scouts.

I'd like to roll out a long and careful objective analysis showing the scouting error for you...except I was as sure as the rest of you that Gallery and Grove were going to restore the toughness to the Raiders O.

With Carlisle, McQuistan, and Grove on the interior, they should be alright up the middle. But Barry Sims and Gallery at the tackles? Sims has been awful since back when the Raiders weren't, and Gallery has been a bust of epic proportions.

i really cant understand why he would want this long of a holdout. for some reason, trying to play qback, as a rookie, is the hardest thing to do in pro sports. with all the other picks signed, it should be pretty much cut and dry what he should be making. and this is still another case for the rookie salary cap. then stuff like this wouldn't happen

I can say this, he may miss 2 or 3 preseason games at the most

In the long run, an extended holdout won't be a factor in deciding how successful Russell will be as a player.

I think that will really hurt him as a player then. His teammates won't appreciate that, and his learning would be significantly hampered.
But I think you're right.
