Pro-football-reference.com blog » Are you sick of college football’s national champion being decided by rote, unthinking, mechanical algorithms? I have the solution. (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/wordpress/?p=345)

I've always been against a playoff in college football, because I like the way Bowl season not only decides the champion, but is great for TV. However, we seriously need a better way of deciding who the two best teams in the Nation are than letting the bozos who administer these polls vote for the best teams.

there should be a playoff, no doubt.

Needs playoff without a doubt. Why is it the only major sports event without playoffs??

i really cant understand the thinking for NOT having a playoff. you can still use the bowl games, but just in tournament style the whole bcs thing is retarded

Yeah it isn't difficult to figure out. What I don't get is why the NCAA runs March Madness and makes BILLIONS off of it and then runs the BCS and makes MILLIONS off of it. Football is more popular in this country. That alone should show them that the way they run the "post season" is flawed. Screw tradition. Really does anyone care about it? I can't see why anyone cares about the traditions of a bowl system that is just a bunch of meaningless games. THESE GAMES MEAN NOTHING.

Them: "Woohoo we won the rose bowl this year!"
Me: "Cool, what did that get you?"
Them: "Umm, we got to watch a parade and spend our money"

Dumb.

The reason I heard that school presidents are against it is because of missed classes that will occur as a result - which is crap. With basketball the players miss a ton of classes not only during the tournament but also during the regular season compared to football. Also, if you went to a 16 team tournament that would only be an extra month for the finalists, 3 weeks for semis and so on - so the season is only long for a few teams - not everyone.
Heck I would like to see a 32 team tournament - 1 month and one extra week of football is not that bad and I bet it would rake in more money than March Madness in a couple of years - maybe sooner. Plus - if you ran the tournament right after classes end in the winter, there would be really no lost class time as the School Presidents say there would be. You could get rid of the computers and let the champ be decided on the field and it would make College Football even better.

The only good thing I can say about college football is that the regular season is amazing.

I have to tell you, I agree there should be a a playoff system in the NCAA, but the bowl system has been around for so long it's a tradition. Being a Florida fan I would like to see Florida lay the smack down on Boise.

You don't even need to have 32 teams. Just do 8 and the rest can be in bowls. You could use the BCS for that - which in my opinion is no worse than a bunch of damn sports reporters voting. The point is to give the most deserving teams a chance to play for the title. Sure, you can argue about who might be 7 or 8, but you would at least know that a 3/4 wasn't getting screwed out of a chance. 3 weeks would do it.
