what about Steve Spurrier?????

I would have to put Don Shula in the top 5 he is the winningest coach of all time. Lombardi, the dang superbowl trophy is named after him. but you can make a case for many others. here is a name that has not been mentioned I dont think (maybe because he coached the BOYS) Jimmy Johnson. He won some superbowls took a one win team and made them a beast there in the 90's. Maybe not top 5 but possibly top 10. he is defenetely a great eye for talent, he just never got his quarterback in Miami, then no coach has really. If you look at his time in Miami though he did take them to the playoffs and they have pretty much been crap in that division since he left.

Jimmy Johnson? Please! He was lucky that the Minnesota braintrust was so incompetent in the Hershal Walker trade!

1 Lombardi
2 Landry
3 Shula
4 Noll
5 Walsh

Coach Gibbs is in the top ten, but he better start turning things around this season or he is going to be outta there(top ten that is). He might be outta there(DC) if he can't produce. I will get ragged for this assesment, but it is the truth. You are only as good as your last game or season. IF Coach goes down a loser, the luster of that HOF career will be soiled for good. I think this is it for Coach. He will either go out on top or just leave in failure. We have the future QB crowned with a solid supporting cast. If we can't get to the playoffs this year, it will be a while til we do it again.

I'm tempted to rag on you, but you're entitled to your opinion.

If coach doesn't get it done this year, he might bolt on his own or Snyder will do the unthinkable. If he can't do it this year I highly think we won't do it next year. Gibbs II has been overall an unsuccessful run so far, and if we don't get over the hill this season, it will be a long time in coming IMHO. What I said in the quote about only being as good as your last game/season is true. The last images I have of Montana are him in a fetal position in KC getting destroyed, not him airing it out with Rice in a SB. Chuck Noll ended up getting dumped and then going into obscurity. Very few folks can really remember the Gibbs I SB's that well that much. The images folks will have will be of 2 losing seasons in a row if we don't get it done this year.

Fine, but do you really remember Chuck Noll as someone who ended his career with a 7-9 record, or the 4-time SB winner? Do you remember Joe Montana as the guy who lead the Chiefs to the playoffs, or the 3 time Super Bowl MVP for the San Fransisco 49ers? Do you think of Babe Ruth as the guy who ended his career with a batting average under .200 or as The Sultan of Swat? Do you think of Johnny Unitas as the guy who ended his career with 3 TDs and 7 INTs in his final season or as a Baltimore Colt icon? Do you think of Willie Mays as the guy who could barely limp to first base wearing a New York Mets uniform or as the Say Hey kid with the SF Giants?

Bottom line, I don't see any reason why Gibbs 2.0 should tarnish the legacy of Joe Gibbs.

Man, it sure sounds like you're already giving up on the season before it even starts! Let the games start before you start making doomsday predictions! Besides, I think the Skins have a great shot at doing well in the NFC East (the Giants are a mess, McNabb might be a shell of himself, and the Cowboys are still being QB'ed by that punk/choke artist Romo) and from all indications Campbell is progressing brilliantly and the defense has been shored up quite a bit.
