I gotta give some love to the Tripp. His opinions are consistently the most even-handed and realistic of just about any member on this site.
I agree that Portis will still be very effective this season, and that it's quite possible his best days are behind him. I don't see the type of work ethic from him that leads me to believe he'll maintain his body well enough as he ages to remain in peak playing condition. Jerry Rice and Darrell Green are examples of guys who worked tirelessly to stay in good playing shape; and they didn't take nearly the punishment that a RB does.
I think our RB talent is strong, even with an injured Portis. And I agree with G Tripp, we don't have a top 3 RB tandem here. But what we do have is a scheme and an offensive coordinator capable of producing a top 3 ranked running game, even though the RBs at his disposal may not be LT and Turner.
Of course we'll need a healthy offensive line to make that happen as well.
While that is true. Portis I think (and hope) that he returns to his 05 form. you are right, he doesn't seem to work hard enough to stay in shape. But now I think he is starting to realize it with all the Betts talk. And I think once he recovers from this tendonitis I think he will work harder to stay in shape. At least he better. Cause he is only going to be 26. If he actually gets that work ethic back. He could still be a dominant force for the next 10 years barring injury. But you are right Schneed he has to get that work ethic back.
