Redskins Insider (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/)

Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels had to be carted off the field late in this afternoon's practice with what the team hopes is a mild MCL sprain. Samuels tangled amid a gaggle of bodies and was on the ground for several minutes before being helped to the sidelines.

Samuels appeared to be getting treatment on his left knee, but the team has not yet verified the knee that was hurt. Samuels spoke to teammates and team officials while being carted off, several of whom said that the veteran did not believe the injury was a major tear. Samuels went directly to the training room and the Redskins may not know the extent of the injury until late tonight or tomorrow.

Receiver Mike Espy missed the second practice with a bruised left knee and fullback Pete Schmitt left practice early with a left shoulder injury and did not return. More information on their status should be available later tonight. Rookie linebacker Dallas Sartz (hamstring) missed both practices today. Tight end Tyler Ecker (groin) missed both sessions. Star linebacker Marcus Washington, who is coming off hip surgery, was rested for the second session today.

Dude, relax it's pre-season...shit happens. Big Chris will be fine. He played practically all last year on a bad knee.

He'll be straight. Hopefully it's nothing serious, but DAMN!

Well if it was a complete tear then they would know very quickly. Like on the field the trainer would have a pretty good idea that it was a complete tear. If the rumors an hour or two later are still that it is only a sprain then it is unlikely to be a catastrophic type injury. Not a good thing but in this case hopefully the least worst scenario.

I agree shit happens but, it is so gut wrench when something happens. It is the worst defeat. At some point in my life after watching football I will realize that no season is injury free. You need to also remind yourself that ever other team is going through the same crap. This year I just want to come out of the gate with all our horses.

At work I have just keeped my mouth shut. I want to be able to have something to cheer about before running my mouth about how good we are. I want to be able to walk in on Monday morning with a smile on my face because I know the Redskins just got a big win on Sunday and nobody can say shit to me!

Please let this be a small injury, please.

Apparently he was already on the down when he got rolled over. Thank goodness it's not torn, for him and the team. We need that big Pro Bowler protecting JC's blind side!

Yeah thats great, the worst DT we have and he hurts our only pro bowl OT. Thats not to say Thomas and Jansen are not PB's, at least in my mind.
