I was reading the Wikipedia biography on the 80's wrestler, Andre the Giant and saw this line item. Who knew Andre was a hog at heart.
---------
Andre the Giant
"He was offered a professional American football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football) contract with the Washington Redskins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Redskins) after a tryout in 1974 and seriously considered it, but turned it down, reasoning that he could make far more money wrestling."
------------
Danny could have landed him!

He would have filled the center and the 2 guard spots quite nicely.

Wow. That's like a Reese's peanut butter cup. Bringing together two of my favorite things: Andre and the Skins.
Moment of silence for Andre, please.

I wonder if thats still true today that a person can go into a fake sport like wrestling and make more money than a pro football player on average. I understand kids watching wrestling but I do not get the adults who follow the sport knowing that it is fake.

What a shame...he could've been good for us.

Doubt that Buster. HE was sort of slow in his movement even in the 70's. HE never really got hit in the ring. The ill effects of his giganticism would have been greatly accelerated probably with the constant pounding and bending over he would have done. He would have lasted maybe 2-3 seasons tops then would have been messed up I would think. By the time he wrestled Hogan for the title in Wrestlemania he could barely move. By the early 80's he was just a big freak that couldn't get knocked down, but he could barely move.

I may be wrong but didn't both Goldberg and Brock Lesnar play (or attempt) to play pro football at one time?

Goldberg played for the falcons, and Lesner left wrestling to try and make it in the NFL. couldn't do it
