Do you know what a "media outlet" is? It isn't a blog that pastes articles every now and then.
offiss 07-31-2007, 05:54 AM Offiss, how do you suggest we get a QB better than Mark Brunell this offseason and how much would you pay to compensate him?
Better QBs than Brunell are out there, but unless you want to go the Culpepper route, they are going to cost a lot more than we are paying Campbell.
Better than Brunell? How can you possibly do worse?
How about develpoing one of our backups, what cracks me up is everyone ridicules Snyder for going after everyone elses garbage, and yet that's exactly how many here think, as if we could never develope a backup, why don't we already have a backup in place? Which is the real question. Why have we had to waste time with Brunell and Collins in the first place? This never happened in the 80's, we alway's had legitamate backup's even if they had no game experience, Brunell has retarded the growth of this team the day he was signed, we were trying to build and race a ferrari, and we went to the retirement home to get someone to drive it.
IMO this all still stems from Gibbs reluctance to admit he royally screwed up by trading for a washed up QB and handing him 43 million, when he was about to be released, who would have probably landed as a backup somewhere, or starting for a lowsey team, which he basically did, only for a lot more money! As Riggins stated he still believes Gibbs is going to find a way to try and get Brunell back on the field.
Unless your team is built around a superstar QB and his ability to carry a team, then a backup should be able to win games for you, Gibbs teams through the years have been better at plugging in nobodies at QB and succeeding than anyone in the NFL. Brunell has proven he can't do it, give a kid a chance to prove that he can, at least you have the possibility that he can succeed. Bramlet should be that guy, and then allow Palmer to develope as the 3rd string QB, sorry but it needs to be done, it's time to take the old dog out back and put him out of his misery, and clear the way for the young dogs to step up!
But if you want a name who could possibly be had in a trade with experience I will give it to you, Charlie Frye, I believe he's stuck in a pathetic offensive scheme, I think this kid has the instinkts to be a very good QB, he looked like a play maker the few times I have watched him, in all liklyhood he's probably better than anyone we have with maybe the exception of Campbell? He is on the out's in Cleveland. Offer Brunell for him and see what the Browns say?:cheeky-sm He can bring his vast knowledge of the game and tutor Quinn.

And of course that we could probably get him cheap. Here's why:

Frye has been picked off a bundle in his first two seasons, and I'm not sure exactly what you've seen in him to make you think that he can change that. Being young doesn't do much for us when he is nowhere near the QB Brunell is/was/can be.
FO's stats really put this in perspective better than the conventional numbers. Charlie Frye: worse than the readily available college QB. Brunell: Still pretty good, even at age 37.

I don't think you do because The Warpath does not qualify.

Charlie Frye???? C'mon. Yes we all know Brunell is as washed up as an old wet rag. But I would much rather have Brunell backing up JC than Frye. Frye has no arm what so ever. I think Brunell has a better, and the more accurate arm than Frye. Plus who says Frye is available anyway? He has a chance to win the job in Cleveland. Even if Anderson beats him out, Crennel's job is on the line and I don't see them putting a rookie this year. So I'd look for Frye to be 2nd string this year.
Riggins is full of crap. JC deserves to get a full year and I think he would have to play real poorly to get yanked. We have way too much invested in him and we just have to let the guy play and live with his mistakes. He is a young qb w/ only 7 starts so you know he is going to make mistakes so we are just going to have to live with it.
Where Gibbs screwed up is by not starting JC from the get go last year.
JC is the starter and unless he gets hurt or plays downright horrible there's no way Gibbs goes back to Brunell.
Gibbs was asked in his first press conference about the QB situation and he seemed a little annoyed when someone asked him if there was a competition for the starting job, he simply said Jason is our starter.
The naysayers want to keep saying that Brunell was Gibbs' handpicked guy, well guess what? So was Jason Campbell. Stop with the conspiracy theories that Gibbs just wants to get Brunell back on the field at any cost.
Monkeydad 07-31-2007, 03:26 PM There are college lines better than the Raiders' from last year.
I would consider Brooks' seasons at New Orleans, not the Raiders. When an organization is that dysfunctional you ignore anything that happened there.
He stank in NO too, except for one decent year.

Cleveland Browns | Players :: Charlie Frye (http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/team/player.php?id=409)
I would take him in a heartbeat, he has more than enough arm strength to succeed, he's a very dedicated, and hard worker. He will make some team very happy at some point in his career.
In one sentence you agree Brunell is shot, why would you want him backing up? I don't get it? Further more if you put such emphasis on arm strength Brunell is the last QB you would want, how hard do you have to be able to throw the ball to complete an 6 yard pass? Which is all Brunell does, the guy is shot he wont look down field because his arm is to weak, and he's scared to death of getting hit, that's Brunell in a nut shell! If you want a QB with some NFL experience who could possibly be available, who's young and has a lot of upside it's Frey.
