He was the first to 1000 Receptions?
The media loves digit significance( if that makes any sense). 3000 Hits, 500 home Runs, 100 Reception Season, 4 Minute Mile, and the Sub 10 second 100 Meter dash are just a few examples.
950 Receptions is remarkable. But first to 1000 would've put him in the HOF in my mind.
FYI, I think he is the second greatest WR of all time and He should have been a first ballot HOF'er.
So, What do you think?
If he would have reached 1000 Receptions, Would he have received enough notoriety to get him into the HOF?
Good question. I'm not sure if 1000 would have made a difference to be honest. It seems like the Hall voters are determined to say whatever it takes to keep him out at this point. I've seen so many lame explanations as to why he's not in it's absolutely ridiculous.

i swear this is just as bad as Jerry Rice not getting in, but no one questions him as a first ballot. Monk retires as THE BEST in history, has ALL the records...but Irvin gets in b4 him? If Andre Reed goes in b4 Art i think i might have to burn Canton down.

I'm sorry Monk was a great receiver but he was no Jerry Rice.

I agree for the most part, but Monk never had a Joe Montana or Steve Young throwing to him.

Never said he was... what I was implying that Monk was at the top... the BEST EVER when he retired just like Jerry Rice. It is an injustice that he hasnt made it in...what makes it even worse is that Michael Irving the push-off king, cock[e]head did.

With 1000 definitely. Voters treat him as such a borderline case that that milestone would've brought enough hype to galvanize his support.
If he doesn't get in soon he'll be a cold case, and thats just a shame. Go Peter King.

Wasn't Monk the first WR EVER to have a 100 catch season?
Him not being in the Hall is, in my mind THE biggest injustice in all of sports.

My bad Smootsmack, both Charley Hennigan, Houston - 101 in '64; and Lionel Taylor, Denver - 100 in '60 had 100 catch seasons before him. Must have confused him finishing his career with the then current single season record 106 catches as being the first do do it.
