Would Monk Be in the HOF if?SantanaMan 07-17-2007, 09:55 PM Doubled post, my bad. SantanaMan 07-17-2007, 09:56 PM Though technially both these dudes did it before the merger (in the AFL), so in a way Art Monk WAS the first to do it in the NFL ;-) CHIEF CHUCKING MY SPEAR 07-17-2007, 10:03 PM doesnt matter Monk should be in the HOF anyways 81forHOF 07-18-2007, 08:15 AM The sad truth of the matter is Monk would be in the HOF if he had given more interviews to the press (the same press that is not voting him in) during his career. They are punishing him for his modesty and shyness......I bet Keyshawn gets in right away. redskin37 07-18-2007, 08:43 AM Art Monk had a poor relationship with the media . Thast the only reason he's not in the hall . skinsfan69 07-18-2007, 10:08 AM He was the first to 1000 Receptions? The media loves digit significance( if that makes any sense). 3000 Hits, 500 home Runs, 100 Reception Season, 4 Minute Mile, and the Sub 10 second 100 Meter dash are just a few examples. 950 Receptions is remarkable. But first to 1000 would've put him in the HOF in my mind. FYI, I think he is the second greatest WR of all time and He should have been a first ballot HOF'er. So, What do you think? If he would have reached 1000 Receptions, Would he have received enough notoriety to get him into the HOF? I think he is not in cause he didn't score enough TD's. If he had got in the endzone more I think he would be in. gibbsisgod 07-18-2007, 10:34 AM HOF induction for 2008 will include D.Green and Monk. I have been saying that for 3 years now and I still believe it. I am still mad about Irvin going first but that doesn't mean he was better. rypper11 07-18-2007, 11:44 PM The sad truth of the matter is Monk would be in the HOF if he had given more interviews to the press (the same press that is not voting him in) during his career. Deion Sanders Chris Carter will both make it in before any Redskin gets in again (and don't try the Deion as a Redskin line, he was a Cowgirl agent here for the cash). NYCSkin 07-19-2007, 12:22 AM If only he hadn't had been hurt during the first two Super Bowl winning seasons. In 82, he was our primary target but got hurt against the Cardinals in the last game of the season. He missed the playoffs and our win against the Dolphins. In 87, Monk was injured again and a nonfactor in the playoffs and the Super Bowl, where he had only one catch. Meanwhile, his replacement Sanders went off that day. Being essentially a nonfactor during those two championship runs lends evidence to those who say he never had any signature moments--since these sort of moments only occur (or at least are immortalized) during the playoffs and Super Bowl.
