2001 Vs 2007

I was debating which defensive back corps i liked most. I remember Bailey and Smoot shutting down some pretty nice wide recievers. For the life of me it took me awhile to remember the safeties we had this year, but it dawned upon me (actually i looked it up) that it was Carrier and Shade.
Now currently we have a potentially great safety tandem, but i cant seem to remember who our cornerbacks are (that is a joke). So i ask this, which do you prefer Bailey(probowler), Green(Hall of Fame), Smoot(rookie) OR Taylor(probowler), Springs(probowl alternate), Landry(rookie)?
Keep in mind this is Green's 2nd to last year, and also we have never watched Landry take a snap. Let the debate commence...2001 Washington Redskins (http://www.jt-sw.com/football/pro/rosters.nsf/Annual/2001-was)

You cannot truly argue this untill the season is over and you see the results. It would entirely be speculation.

His name is Darrell Green lol. Honestly that's one of my pet peeves, is when someone spells one of our players names wrong, especially one such as Darrell Green, who is probably one of the top 5 best Redskins of all time. Oh yeah and he retired after the 2002 season, not the 2001 one.

But yeah, rant aside, I'd rather take the 2001 db corps, mainly because Bailey was a good #1, Green was good enough to play as a #2, and Smoot because I was optimistic about him lol. That and our safety corps wasn't great, but they were good enough.

This year Landry's just a rook, albeit a good one, Taylor still concerns me, Springs is oft-injured, Rogers is about decent, and idk what to think of Smoot.

Having Landry and Taylor at the S spots is downright scary!

We hope anyway. 'Scary' as in it's a good thing for us.

That secondary in 2001 was outstanding. Comparing them to this year's crop is unfair. There is a lot of potential this year but there are a lot of questions as well.
1. Will LaRon Landry earn the starting strong safety position and will he play like a veteran?
2. Will Sean Taylor excel at free safety? Will he return to being the ball-hawking safety he was in college and in his first two years in the NFL?
3. Will Shawn Springs remain healthy all year? Has he lost a step? Will he continue to perform as a number one cornerback?
4. Will Carlos Rogers step up and perform to his ability? Will he catch at least half of the balls that hit his hands? Does he need to purchase some specially designed gloves that sucks the ball in?
5. Will Fred Smoot be the cornerback that played in Washington or the loveboat cornerback that played in Minnesota?
6. Will Omar Stoutmire come back from his season ending injury? Will he beat out Landry?
7. Will David Macklin and Jerametrius Butler contribute and be productive backups?
8. Can anyone get to the quarterback and help this secondary out?

I think thats too many questions to say that the 2007 DB squad is or will be better than the 2001 squad. What makes me nervous about our whole season is basically that the defense is one big '?'. Experience tells me that that doesn't usually bode well for a team with playoff hopes. Despite how good I know our offense will be, that D is gonna be the thorn in our side not only at the secondary level but IMO top to bottom.
