I only support it when there is something out there that really just does not make any sense. This iphone thing is one of them.

Dumb is an understatement. A FOOL AND THERE MONEY SOON PART WAYS.
How stupid could you be not even knowing the rules to buy. That would only be COMMON sense to be able to buy one on the first day of release, from any given store at a time.....? SUCKER
Nice of her to buy the kid a phone for his spot for $800, and cash left over, SWEET FOR HIM!
I have to admit I can totally imagine myself having one someday. Just not at the current price tag. Maybe when my current phone is due for an upgrade next year I'll consider it.

That's cool. I've got no problem with you thinking it's too much money. I agree. But there isn't much difference between buying the iPhone and buying a signed skins jersey, or season tickets. All are highly valued by some, but insanely overpriced to others. At least you'd use the iPhone every day and you get the best mp3 and video player on the market along with some other gadgets. Once the memory hits 20GB and the price drops, I'll likely buy one.

I do not own an autographed skins Jersey and the season tickets are shared by my extended family. In other words I do not get to attend every game. I refuse to but a PS3 because of the cost, regardless of how much I want to play Madden 08. I spent 800+ dollars on my brothers Bachelor party last weekend and I am still kicking myself for that. We could have had just as much fun for 75 to 100.

I don't know if its the best video player on the market. There are somethings that can do a lot more with video like recording directly off the television but yeah, some of those run at $500 so this being able to do this much may be worth it. Then again some of those have been out for years and are pretty cheap now, 250ish. SOme also allow web surfing and have been out for a while and decreased in price at about 350 and they have a shit load more memory so....

Yeah good point, it's all what the individual values. What I'd be willing to spend a good amount of money on is probably totally different from what someone else might spend money on.
$600 for the iphone might sound crazy, but for alot of people it's obviously not since they've sold 500,000 plus units so far.

I'm not too familiar with the hand-held video player market, so I'll take your word for it. Pretty cool that you know of one the size of a phone that can record directly off a TV. My point is simply that once you start subtracting the cost of the mp3/video player from the 500-600 bucks for the iPhone, you realize that it isn't as much as it seems.
It's still too expensive for me...for now.

I should have provided an example or two. I was tired last night.
I've had an archos av500 Archos AV500 Mobile DVR (100GB) Reviews. Portable Video Players (PVPs) Reviews by CNET. (http://reviews.cnet.com/portable-video-players-pvps/archos-av500-mobile-dvr/4505-6499_7-31552040.html?tag=prod.txt.2) for about a year. Its was given to me as a gift last year after graduation. Its what I wanted but my grandmother, who gave it to me, didn't realize that I probably never would have gotten one because of the price tag. She got it for a bit under 500 which wasn't bad as it was 700 at most places.
Now 1 year later its become old. Its much cheaper now and the company has come out with 2 series of products after it. Worst part is its size but i keep a smaller really cheap and small mp3 for that stuff. The best part of the archos is that it can record directly off the television and has 100GB of memory so I don't really have to worry about that at all. I can record movies off dvds and its even fun to record epic madden games in the dorm room. Bascially anything that can be shown on a TV can be shown on the archos. Actually hooked it up to a computer once so i could record what happened on the computer. Not really needed. Other good part is whatever i recorded i can also put up onto the television, except for dvds which i can only watch on the player for copyright issues. All in all its fantastic but big.
Best thing about it is that it gets noticed when ever i use it. Its good for metro trips or when i'm bored somewhere and i can watch a movie that i rented and just dropped into the player the night before. Also i can put anything i download on it so its a portable hard drive and i have a bunch of redskin videos that i watch on it.
Now the new generation is coming out sometime in the next couple months. You can see it on archos.com. Its size is about the same height and depth as the iphone but the width is much bigger. I'm hoping they come out with smaller ones with the same capabilities in this next generation, which i think they will.
But i was agreeing with you. The iphone does so much that it can easily justify the price tag. Regardless, they could have sold it for 800 and it still would probably sell out. Like you said though, i would like a bigger hard drive.
