GPS for my Treo750

I know we got into talks about which phone to buy but now that I have picked the Treo 750 I want a GPS. I got lost for an hour in Washington DC yesterday and had to call my wife on speakerphone to find my way out. That ain't happen again.

So they make a couple different GPS attachments and software. Which is the best bang for the buck? I see them retail for as much as $250. But here is one for $35???

I hear Tom Tom is good but they seem more expensive.

I'll mainly use it for directions here in VA, DC and MD and not be traveling.

I just bought a TomTom One for my wife. I tested it out yesterday and it works great, my Dad has the same one and he loves it too.

Is it the software that makes it better? I think one of ya'll said the TOM TOM software or maps or something were better.

Never had a car GPS but I have had several for the boat. If you pay less than $200 or $300 I would think the unit will be very limited and you will not be very happy with the unit. With boat GPS systems the more you pay the more they will do and the less you will have to do so yes you are paying for the soft wear in the units. The basic unit for a boat starts at $400 plus.

I'm not sure exactly. But I don't think you can go wrong with some of the major players like Tom Tom, Magellan, Garmin, etc. They all seem to be top notch from what I've heard and read.

I just recently moved from Florida to Colorado, and I bought a Garmin Nuvi 680. It was $900. I purchased it with the intention of returning it after my trip, and I'm glad I did. On two different occasions it routed me into a dead end. Not a very pleasant experience when you are pulling a 12 foot trailer weighing about 4000 pounds. I didn't mess with the default settings, so it's possible that with some configuration changes the directions would be more accurate. You'd think the default settings would be ideal though -- right?

It was awfully convenient, and down right awesome, when it worked -- which was almost the entire trip (2000 miles). However, I just don't have much patience when the damn thing gets you lost. :doh:

Not sure if Cingular has the same thing, but Verizon has VZNavigator. It's 10 bucks a month for the service, which turns your phone into a GPS device.
