I don't think anyone has necessarily given up on him. It's just expectations this year are high. I believe that he will flourish, but we have to wait and see. He's got all the tools. No one is doubting him at all. At least I'm not.

I'm kinda doubting him cuz I've seen him have the case of the dropsies at too many important times. Plus I'd rather him just have a solid year so he doesn't try to ask for Coles type money, which I remember him saying he'd hope he could get when it came for him to sign another contract after the team signed Coles.

True, but I doubt he'll put up numbers like Coles.

yeah I doubt he will either, but smoot hasn't played up to the level of a #1 cb a majority of the time, but yet has made it known he's gonna be looking for #1cb money this upcoming offseason.

coles is simply amazing when he's healthy, I have no idea why the jets would ever let him leave ;) he doesn't even have that nasty WR ego that every other #1 seems to have... maybe someone needs to tell those other guys to shut up cause this isn't the nba.

Smoot needs to back up all his talk this season. He's not playing under the shadow of Champ anymore, and he has said that this will be his year. I like the guys attitude, but you've got to show it on the field for me to believe you. He's had flashes, and he leads the team with INT's. He showed alot of toughness last year by playing through his injury. But the guy talks up alot of game. I hope he does well.

I am also looking forward to the WR battle. Like the QB battle, it is a win-win situation as far as I'm concerned. McCants has proven that he be that big posession guy, especially in the red zone, Thrash is a hard worker that has proven that he can be a decent starter if needed, and Jacobs is the most unproven, but it seems that he is actually the most talented of the three. It will be quite interesting, and I also expect them to be pushing for Gardner's spot too....which hopefully will make him step it up as well.

I think Betts and the Rock are going to have a pretty good war over the 2nd HB spot. :angry-smi
