Third WR
Besides the QB position, the most interesting camp battle will be...Cush 07-25-2004, 08:00 PM Third WR BossHog 07-25-2004, 08:47 PM I voted for the WR battle. Just to stir things up. Gardner may be the 3rd stringer. No. I forgot. Spurrier is no longer with us. skinsfanthru&thru 07-25-2004, 09:03 PM I voted for the WR battle. Just to stir things up. Gardner may be the 3rd stringer. No. I forgot. Spurrier is no longer with us. Thats the same thing I was thinking that it may not just be a battle for the 3rd wr spot but the #2 spot as well, especially with how much praise mccants and jacobs have recieved since Gibbs came back to town. MTK 07-25-2004, 09:24 PM I voted for the WR spot too. Mainly because I see it as the tightest of all the competitions. Jacobs and McCants are both very talented WR's but are still on the raw side in terms of experience. Thrash isn't anywhere as talented but the guy works his butt off and that will win him some points with this staff. The RB battle could also be interesting if Betts gets nicked up early. McCullough is definitely an interesting prospect as far as his skills go. I wouldn't rule out Cartwright just yet either, but he seems to be on the outside track and since Gibbs doesn't utilize the FB very much, RB is Rock's best shot at making the team. If Betts can stay healthy he should have the inside track. But that's a big if. Bowen and Iffy should have a good battle to start opposite Taylor, but it's kind of a ho-hum battle to me. Neither player really excites me as they are both have their own limits. At H-back, who knows? At this point it really seems up in the air, once camp gets going we'll have a better idea of how things will shake out. That Guy 07-25-2004, 10:33 PM I voted for WR, I've seen thrash and mccants, but i'm really interested in seeing how jacobs does. joecrisp 07-25-2004, 10:46 PM The WR battle is definitely the most intriguing to me as well. Seeing Jacobs in the minicamps this spring really got me juiced to see how he performs during the preseason games. McCants was nursing a shoulder injury through most of the minicamps, so Gibbs was pretty much going on what he had seen of McCants in the filmroom, but it's obvious he really likes what he saw. He also really seems to like Jacobs, and loves Thrash's veteran demeanor and work ethic. As far as I'm concerned, Coles is really the only guy whose position on the depth chart is secure. I'm pretty confident McCants, Jacobs and Thrash will all give Gardner a pretty good run for his money, and hopefully the intensity of the competition will elevate the level of play for all involved-- including Gardner. This could be just the nudge Gardner needs to take his game to the next level. None of the other competitions, outside of the one for QB, get me as pumped about the preseason as this one does. SKINSnCANES 07-25-2004, 10:54 PM I dont know if any of yoru watched this, although ims ure a lot of you remember it. But I was watching the 91 season on the NFL channel yesterday, and it was so awesome seeing how no team could match up aganist the posse. I feel we have another great chance to have that same type of threat. Except it doesnt have to be just three, we can rotate people and always have fresh legs on the field. If anything the best part might be having teams respect us enough to leave coles in single coverage. Carnage 07-26-2004, 12:04 AM I voted wr because we have cap money in Jacobs, McCants and Thrash. People always tend to forget how potent Gibbs passing game was that season. Rypien put up huge numbers that year and if I'm not mistaken G.Clark and Monk made it to the Pro Bowl that year. I see Coles, Gardner, and Jacobs being very similar to Clark, Monk, Sanders. You have two speed guys with Coles and Jacobs, and Gardner as your "posession" receiver. Gardner will have to step up this year and put up better numbers than last year. With most of the focus being on our running game and Portis.....it's going to be interesting to see how our passing attack pans out. SkinsNative 07-26-2004, 12:52 PM Does anyone remember that Gardner was a 1,000 yard reciever not too long ago and has been in a flawed system. The guy is good and will flourish in Gibbs system. He has been one of the best #1 picked wideouts in that year's draft, he's young and it's too early to give up on him. Show some support. |
