"It's a very tough deal that Vick is in. I feel like maybe at times you think (something) is not really bad till something happens. Then, oh my goodness, people are making a big deal out of it."
Now Portis was an idiot for what he said, and in general he likes to clown around with the media, but isn't this in essence the message that Portis was trying to convey. Obviously Portis' remarks came off as a downplaying the seriousness of dogfighting but I feel like thats partially due to the media spinning it that way. They wouldn't dream of doing that with LT, though, cuz he is the posterboy of the NFL.Which is exactly the point I was trying to convey with the title of the thread.
Good work Rajmahal.

Same thing? What have you been reading? Portis said that it was Vicks business to what he wanted on his property even if it was illegal. He also said that he saw nothing wrong with dog fighting. LT said he has seen dog fighting and does not understand why people could do that to the dogs. Could you explain how these are the same thing.

So how about these comments? You think Vick would be in trouble if he was running a horse racing ring?

To me what he was saying is that some animal activist would view both as cruel to animals which is true. He did not defend Vick or what he was doing. I think this is a case where they are making it sound as he was comparing the two in his view instead of making the point of activist.

He was. And he clarified it today.
But damnit! If people want to give my man Portis a hard time then it's my right as an American (flag unfurls behind me) to make a mountain out of a molehill out of Vilma's comments. :)

You can try but you have a weak argument. I think Portis is going to catch Sh*& about that comment for some time. Not sure who the Skins player was but he said that the players are still giving him a hard time in a joking way.

I'm not trying to make an argument quite honestly. Truthfully, I probably shouldn't have posted this in the first place. People, as Portis says, have already concluded what they want to conclude about Portis. Many probably before these comments.
Portis would undoubtedly grief. I hope he gets grief in Dallas, then at the end of his 4 touchdown game (we win of course) he caps the night by "peeing like a dog" on the star

He still admitted going to dog fights as a teenager, its horrible, I never thought of watching dogs kill each other when I was that young, why would he admit that in the midst of whats going on with Vick.

How do you know that his dad or older brother didn't take him to these dog fights. He did basically say that he did not see how people got enjoyment out of seeing dogs hurt or killed. Lets not do what the press always does making more of this than it really is.
