Redskins Sign DB Butler (http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=26581)

Could this spell the end for Ade Jimoh?

I saw that this guy had been cut and wondered if we were gonna pick him up. We had him signed to a restricted free agent offer a couple years ago but the Rams matched. Obviously, there is something about this guy that the skins liked.

It is getting awfully crowded at the CB position. Springs, Rogers, Smoot, Macklin and now Butler have all been starters in this league. I figure Springs, Rogers and Smoot are on the final roster with Macklin and Butler duking it out for the fourth slot. Not sure if we will keep 5 CB's.

The only way Jimoh makes it is if his special teams contributions carry him. They just might do that - Gibbs has praised him on those grounds often.

this is a shock to me. I remember it being reported that we were talking to him a while back. Maybe he's not really regained form from that 2005 knee injury & he's not a lock to even make the team. He was a pretty good corner a few years ago.
I sure hope this has nothing to do w/springs, and for that matter I'm not ready to see the Ade go either!

I spelled his first name wrong by the way it's Jerametrius, not Jeremetrious.

Well, we may very well be planning on carrying 10 to the 53 man roster, but even so, you figure that either Macklin or Butler will be the odd man out.

I think our CB depth is pretty stellar right now. Other than Springs, I think all these guys are on the right side of 30 and, while not "shut-down" corners all capable of handling No.2 receivers without much help. Just off the top of my head, I would take our number three corner (whoever it ends up being) against any No.3 WR in the league. Even if Springs goes down with an injury, we are okay (not great - but not crippled either) as I think our No. 2 corners can do a credible job against all but the top 5-10 No. 1 WR's (Rogers/Smoot on Steve Smith? Can you say "Toast me up a TD").

I am also kinda pulling for Westbrook. I am hoping the "he's a diamond in the rough" reports are right and that he turns out to be a real deal steal. He will probably have to be a practice squadder for this year however.

In his latest blog JLC (well acually a guest blogger) said this...
"He's also durable, having never missed a game in his 6-year career. Schoebel could draw double-teams, which would free up interior linemen Cornelius Griffin and upcoming talent Kedric Golston to wreak some havoc, and give fellow end Andre Carter many sack opportunities. " I say offer Buffalo Shawn Springs and 2nd or 3rd rounder and see what happens. Given their glaring need at cornerback with the recent departure of Nate Clemmons and the uncertain long-term status of Schoebel, I think this deal makes a great deal of sense for both teams."

Maybe he was right on and the skins are gearing up to make a push for him. Knowing our depth at secondary would you guys give up Springs for Schoebel?
