Whatever who gives a shit? If anybody says something negative about a dog on this site it will not be public knowledge by tommorrow morning joking or not. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and freedom of speech. The United States seriously needs to consider changing its name to The United States of the easily offended. Stop crying just because somebody says something that you don't like!

But it's not like he was saying The Departed shouldn't have won the Oscar, he was defending a felony. And freedom of speech just means that you can't go to jail for what you say, it has nothing to do with how people react to your words. Of course he is entitled to his opinion just as I am entitled to be disgusted with it.

You're right, he is entitled to say what he wants. The thing that bothered me the most is that it came from one of our players.

He may be a Redskin, but he is still an individual. He was not representing the organization when he made those remarks.

Exactly my point. You don't have to like it, but you have to respect his rights.

I love all animals, particularly dogs. I also find dog-fighting disgusting and cowardly. And, of course, Portis' remarks were dumb. But, to be honest, I think the backlash against him was a little over the top.

I don't know. He seemed pretty serious when he made the intial remarks.
Now, if he had been wearing a cape, rainbow colored wig, and a ginormous pair of sunglasses, then maybe he would have been joking.
Did you happen to see how the interview was going before before they asked him about Vick? No. What you didn't see was that this was a laid back, joking around type of interview. They were joking around when the question came up about dog fighting and that's why Chris S. was kind of laughing. The way the media made this look was not right. CP should not have said what he said but please. It's not like he's going to dog fights, or is involved or anything like that.
If this was 20 or 30 years ago this would not have even made the news. But with all the mass media it gets played and replayed 50,000 times. I'm glad this is over casue I'm sick of it. Let's talk some football. Not about what some silly off the wall comments a guy made when he was basically joking around.

Well, he was serious when he made the remarks. If you read his apology in the post, he says "A couple of weeks ago, when I made those comments I didn't understand the seriousness behind it, I didn't know it would affect that many people, and didn't think what I said was that offensive. But after doing some research and seeing how serious people take this, I shouldn't have made the comments."
In other words, he didn't realize dogfighting was wrong when he made those comments. It shows how ignorant he is, and I find that sad.
But I respect the fact that he showed interest in reading up on the subject and educating himself. And that I admire him for. Sometimes people don't know stuff that they should, happens to all of us at some point. But the worst thing would be if he just ignored all the criticism and kept being an ass about it. He manned up, read more about it, and now recognizes it's a sensitive issue for people. End of story.
On to the real news buried within the text of the post article: his knee is looking better. That's rather awesome.
Hopefully everyone can move past this now.
This whole thing was ridiculous from the start.

Did anyone notice the part in the article where Portis said he recently saw a woman caring for her dog in an airport.......it made him think of a commercial where people were weeping over a dying whale?
I think Portis thinks it super funny that his comments created such a fire-storm.
If that's not a joke then I don't know what is.
