People will realize just how good Samuels is once we have to find his replacement. He's anchored the left side since his rookie year, if anything I think he's really underappreciated by Skins fans.

Agreed. Samuels has had some rough times, like all players do. But he takes far too much criticism from Redskins fans.

As much as I hate to admit it, Jansen is the real culprit. I know he's battled through injuries the past few years. But it's time for him to regain his pre-injury form.

Samuels gets too much of the flack, while Jansen just gets excuses.

I think Gibbs puts a lot of value on him as a returner. A great return man can singlehandedly take you from 8-8 to 10-6. Only a few other players are in a position to do that. I think there will have to be a re-evaluation after this season. Those big returns seem really valuable when a team is successful and he's due for a couple this year.

So we really should have been 3-13 last year?

Antwaan will have to do a whole lot more in order for me to keep him off the overrated list. Two or so big returns a season won't be enough to change that.

So our best defensive player is our most overrated. Umm............ how to say this. I disagree with that for multiple reasons. Whenever an analyst talks about top safties or defensive backs, Sean Taylor is never included. So, for that sole purpose that would make him an underrated player not overrated. To be honest there isn't a player on our roseter in my mind that has so much hype that his performance to this point would be considered a disapointment. Yes, Antwaan Randle El didn't produce as much as we thought he would in the first year. But, hasn't every player and coach who has worked with Al Saunders (including coach saunders) said that it takes 2 years to fully understand his playbook, and from my understanding we are in year 2 of the saunders experiment so let's just wait and see what happens. The reason everyone would call Randle El would be called overrated is because everyone falsely expected him to come in here and instantly produce game changing play after game changing play. But, if you look at his stats for the 2006 season he tied a career high in TD receptions with 3. Plus, the reason he had a career high in reception yards in 2005 was because he was the second option in the passing game in pittsburgh in 2005. Let's be honest Randle El was brought in here and at the start of the seaon he would have been considered the 4th option in the passing game behind Moss, Lloyd, and Cooley. So in that retrospect he started at 4th and moved into 3rd by the end of the season so for a 3rd/4th option tweener I would say that he did pretty good. It really didn't help him that Mark Brunell admitted that he was skeptical to open the playbook and kept throwing dinks and dunks.

Oh by the way I still think our most underrated player on our roster is, and always has been Chris Cooley. He is the most productive player in the NFL on offense that never gets talked about. His career low in touchdowns is 6 and he just became a full blood tight end in 2006.

Who are you? Anyone else mildly suspicious as to how the tone and content of Quake's posts changed so radically in just 48 hours?

It is still me.http://www.thewarpath.net/images/icons/icon10.gif I am just ready to really add purposeful additions to discussions rather than just say simple uninteresting things such as "yeah i agree" and "you are right." To be honest I was boring myself acting like that and I was annoying everyone on the board including myself.

I think our offensive line is our most overrated unit. I mean people know our second receiver and DL situations are terrible, but there is a strong perception that we have one of the leagues best OLs. It's adequate, but Rabach is a league average player on a good day, same for Jansen, and our LG is a converted tackle. That doesn't bode all that well, even with great players like Samuels and Thomas on that line.

Dude, u put it in wrong words.. Individually, for some yes u are right.. But when our o-line works tog, it is one of best o-line in NFL.. It's all because of teamwork..

Good cohesion allows for us to get maximum production out of those front 5, but you're only as good as your weakest link.

If you really want to get into depth with the entire overrated aspect of the game you must really define the word. So what exactly do you consider overrated? A player whose contract vastly outweighs his talent. (Example: Adam Archuleta, Daniel Graham.) Or a player who has one really good season and everyone thinks he is the best ever when really we have seen stuff like this happen before. (Example: Ladell Betts, Asante Samuel.) Before you jump down my throat on the Asante Samuel thing let's really take a look at him. Okay he had 10 interception this season and he led the league in that category. (although he tied with champ bailey) Look back to 2001 when Anthony Henry pulled down the magic number of 10 interceptions and everyone thought he was going to be premiere cornerback in the league and is he? I think not so does that in retrospect make Asante Samuel overrated. Or three is overrated when everyone seems to talk about a player but they are extremely inconsistent. (example: Eli Manning) So which category does Antwaan Randle El fall under? If the answer is none then how can he be considered to be overrated? That is the question we need to ask ourselves as football fans. What is the real definition of being overrated? And when we are able to define that then, and only then will we be able to say who is overrated and who isn't. Without that then everything else is mere opinion.
