Latest Dale Jr. to 'news' MORE: Depending on who one believes in the Nextel Cup garage, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is headed either to Ginn Racing with sponsorship from Budweiser or Joe Gibbs Racing with backing from credit card giant Visa. Either way, expect an announcement next month. “We're trying not to comment too much on how things are going or what's going on until we can really have something to say, but I can tell you that things are positive,” Earnhardt said after qualifying on Friday. “I've just been overwhelmed with the personalities that I've met, with the owners and the individuals working at each company. There are certainly a lot of great people out there with good morals and good values and with great attitudes about the sport and about what they want to accomplish. It makes me feel good about where the sport's going to be in the next 5-10 years with some of these individuals I've met.”(SPEEDtv.com)
UPDATE: on FoxSports NASCAR pre-race from Dover, Jeff Hammond said sources tell him that Dale Earnhardt Jr, would sign with Joe Gibbs Racing and have sponsorship from VISA, with the announcement coming within the next 10-14 days.(6-3-2007)

It's not a done deal yet...I actually don't think he will go over to Gibbs racing.
#1- there might be an issue because Lil E says he will not drive anything but a Chevy
#2- He has expressed interest in keeping #8, and he won't be able to at Gibbs racing. I heard something about this during the rain out at dover today. I know I was VERY supersticious about my #7 when I played...I even paid one of my teammates $200 to give me the number when I played football at college.
#3- Lil E has a lot of connections and friends, I would expect him to go where the money is at. I know him and Stewart are friends, but that will only go so far. There is still a slight possibility that he will return to Earnhardt inc.

Another story from NASCAR.com on this subject.
NASCAR.COM - JGR ponders future with Chevrolet, Earnhardt Jr. - Jun 3, 2007 (http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/headlines/cup/06/03/dearnhardtjr.jgibbs.chevrolet.ap/index.html)

I really doubt JGR will switch to Toyotas and Gibbs has Starter waiting as a sponsor and Visa is still looking to get in.

This could still very much happen.

Ummm huh?

1) Gibbs runs Chevys
2) #8 belongs to DEI. He can't drive it for anyone but them unless DEI makes a trade or something. I have no idea why he is any less likely to dirve #8 for Gibbs than anyone else.
3) Well Gibbs is one of the best financed teams on the circuit. And by any measure if he wanted the money he'd stay at DEI. That is where the money is. This isn't about money and everything he has done adn said has shown that. This is about winning a championship. He isn't going back to DEI.

And Joe Gibbs will never switch to Toyota in my opinion. He has those chevys dialed in pretty good and especially them new cars with new motors.

Race on at Noon if Dover drys out!

Go Denny Go!

Well then I am unsure of what Waltrip was talking about.

ps- while I love Gibbs the Skins coach, I hope Gibbs the owner goes down in flames.

Just want to take a minute on this thread to say RIP Bill France Jr.; former Chairman of NASCAR who made it the billion dollar juggernaut it is today.

And now back to Dale talk.

Why in the world would you have feelings like that?

As a 2nd year NASCAR fan I never knew how much Mr. Bill France Jr. did for his sport. Watching fans and friends speak of him yesterday was very moving. I think the way folks talk about you when you die is a pretty good measure of a man. If that's the case this man was loved, respected and will be missed.
RIP Bill France Jr.
