gibbsisgod 05-25-2007, 10:17 AM Let me preface this by saying that I'm not defending Marvin at all, but what kind of asshole cop goes around pulling people over for not using their blinkers? Sure, it pisses me off greatly when people don't, but MAN what a douchebag.
Way to have a lot to do that day cop.Perhaps he was suspicious of the vehicle in the first place and that was just the excuse he needed. IMO it doesn't matter because the cop was doing his job. The guy was driving on a suspended license. He shouldn't have been driving in the first place and I say "nice work" to the officer for doing his job.
TheMalcolmConnection 05-25-2007, 10:18 AM Ah, well that makes more sense. All I heard was, "He pulled our player over for not using a signal light."
I didn't know the rest of it because I was half-asleep this AM when I heard it. If that's the case, then good.
I just thought the cop was arbitrarily pulling people over for not using turn signals.

I just thought the cop was arbitrarily pulling people over for not using turn signals.Obviously he didn;t know the driver had his license suspended until after he pulled him over. If all of his paperwork (i.e. License, insurance, registation) was in order he probably would have just gotten a warning. My point is we shouldn't be crticizing the cop for pulling him over just for a blinker. The driver broke the law and got busted for it.
gibbsisgod 05-25-2007, 10:24 AM With all this cop-talk, where the hell is mheisig? It may be time to attack his site again.
EARTHQUAKE2689 05-25-2007, 10:25 AM Of course you can, and thank you for adhering to the rule. We all must respect the rule.
otherwise we would get targeted by the police
PSUSkinsFan21 05-25-2007, 10:25 AM I think Marvin needs to redirect his attention to his players. Perhaps a big sign in the locker room that says "NO BREAK LAW = NO GET ARRESTED".......he might have to simplify it a little bit for guys like Chris Henry (perhaps a series of Tarzan-like grunts could be effective), but I think some of his guys might actually get the point.
This is all a sarcastic way of saying Marvin was totally out of line here. As has been said already, take some responsibility. Why would you want to give your idiot repeat offenders an out by letting them say "Coach, it wasn't my fault, the cops are just after us." I'm reminded of the scene in "Liar Liar" where Jim Carrey's client just committed some crime and wanted advice and Carrey simply picks up the phone and yells "Stop breaking the law, asshole!". Personally, I think Marvin would be wise to start every practice the same way.
Mc2guy 05-25-2007, 10:48 AM I can sense Lewis's frustration over this issue, expecially with the scrutiny I am sure the team owner and commish are putting him under given the negative publicity re: the Bengals. I can just imagine Lewis hearing about this from the team attorney....
"What, another idiot got arrested? What'd he do?...A TURN SIGNAL!?!?! Sheesh, I can't get a break. Why don't those cops target real criminals and cut me a little slack for criminy's sake?"
Unfortunatly, Marv couldn't keep his feelings in check when on camera and he's now in backtrack mode. Clinton is a player, his stupidity is almost exusable (I said almost). Marv's a coach and should know better.
skinsfan69 05-25-2007, 11:09 AM Perhaps some of the guys are being targeted. I'm not making excuses for any of the Bengals by any means. But Marvin Lewis is a well respected NFL coach. He's not just going to say some dumb shit w/out some kind of reasoning behind it. If guys are bring pulled over for not using a turn signals then that's BS. I see cops break the laws more times then i can count. Speeding, not using turn signals, parking illegally and so on.

I'll just say it. If a police officer sees a young black person in a nice car, ESPCIALLY IN CINNINATTI OHIO, they are automatically going to do a double take and be suspicious. That's just how it is, and that's always how it's going to be.

I agree (even though I hate people that don't use signals), and in saying Marvin should have kept is mouth shut on the issue is in no way a suggestion that he is wrong.
Police profile constantly on traffic stops, whether it is policy to do so or not. Even if the profiling isn't racial, in most cop's minds, the odds of pulling over a blinged out 'sclade riding on 22's with limo tint all around and finding criminal behavior (suspended licenses, narcotics, driver impairment) is much greater than pulling over a minivan with soccer stickers on it. Whether we all agree with that statment or not, that is what the cops are thinking.
