With all the hoopla over the NBA draft, what do you guys think about the NFL doing a lottery for say the bottom 5 teams for the first round of the draft only? I think it would really add another element to draft day, but I know its never gonna happen.

no way... the NBA lottery is a flawed system. The way the draft is now is the way it should stay. No time changes between picks and No first round on its own day... the draft is hard and long enough as it is w/o adding an extra day or a lottery to it

Nope. The current system in the NFL is always pretty fair, while the worst team in the NBA can get hosed year after year with that dumb lottery.

A lottery is a bad move and it really isn't needed in the NFL anyway since the talent pool is usually much deeper in the NFL than the NBA. This year is a great example...the first two prospects in Oden and Durant are light years ahead of the 3rd pick and below. Also, one player can truly change your team overnight in the NBA, whereas no one player in the NFL will suddenly turn a lousy team into a contender, no matter how good they are.

One change I would support is a Rookie salary cap structure like the NBA...the top 15 draft picks in the NFL are WAY overpaid for what they bring to the table. Paying 30 Mil to a guy who has never taken a snap in the league is insane if you ask me.

But doesn't the current NFL system encourage the worst teams to lose out in hopes of getting the top 2 or 3 picks?

No.

The lottery is there because one player can change a franchise is basketball. One player is 20% of a fielded team and is probaly 30-40% of the production. That is big incentive to tank at the end of the year which is the only reason to have a lottery. In football teams would be dumb to tank because no one player is really worth the lost respect and revenue and.

Yeah, that's a good point about one player being 20% of a fielded team.
