GusFrerotte 05-19-2007, 11:57 PM Vick will pay a hefty fine at worst. It is dog fighting for god's sake. The NFL or the powers that be will not let the Falcons #1 draw and money producer to go behind bars for fighting dogs in his basement. Too much potential lost revenue if Vick is not on the field. Only folks that should really be pissed are PETA and some other animal rights folks. CP was Bsing and playing with the press.

Luckily PETA hasn't chimed in on this issue. I'm a huge animal lover and hate PETA, they go about everything the wrong way. However, the humane society has asked Goodell to ban Vick for life if this is true.
Dog fighting is a FELONY punishable by five years in prison and a 2500 dollar fine for a reason.
EXoffender 05-20-2007, 02:56 PM The first and main thing that I think Clinton was doing is taking the chance, since he was in the Virginia Beach area, to defend a fellow football player who is from that area, and who has been much maligned.
What the PFW article does is insinuate in libelous fashion that Portis might have participated in such events in the past, and purposefully tries to stir up hostility against him. The article is a crock; yellow journalism.
As far as dog fighting, to me there is a cultural divide here. Dog fights may well be common in the rural South as Clinton says. People may view them as a tolerated norm. They aren't good, but I can see how if you grow up with them that you could be desensitized to seeing them as a bad thing.
I recently saw a movie about slaughterhouses and I can say that what the meat industry, and also what the dairy and chicken industries, do to animals is not a good thing either. I'm not a fan of what boxing, ultimate fighting or a lot of things do to people either.
I think it's good that there is this public discussion going on about the issue, because it will cause people to reflect and hopefully reconsider participating in this practice.
It's no big deal to me at all and I don't think any less of Clinton just because he thinks something that differs from me. He doesn't participate in these kind of events himself.
I think we all are best when we recognize that there are different cultural norms and try to tolerate each other's views and work toward common ground.
I'm with you. Mike Vick is not a bad guy. Portis surely is not. Defending something that is a controversy will raise eyebrows.
SBXVII 05-20-2007, 08:06 PM Guys, may want to excuse me for being so sensitive on this subject, but just sixteen month's ago one of my dogs was viciously attacked and mutilated by by an out of control Pit bull Terrier. Vet bill was enormous, three different court appearances to recover expences for untold suffering to the animal. I share no sympathy for anyone involved in what Vick is being acused, or for anyone who condone it.
I grew up with dogs all my life and love them dearly. I will say that I will not have a situation like this though. With only 3 Vet school in the USA and as difficult as it is to get into I find it still obsurd that the prices for Vet care are as bad a humans. Thats what pisses me off. Animals are Animals not Humans or children for people who can't have children. Adopt. You could have spent $50. for the dog to be put down. Sued the other owner. and purchased a new dog for less I bet.
SBXVII 05-20-2007, 08:09 PM Money makes people greedy. I'm sure someone showed Vick how much money is floating around the dog fighting scene and he wanted to get his money. Either that or he truely is ignorant and his cousin should be getting a beatin soon.
GusFrerotte 05-20-2007, 11:48 PM Dog fighting isn't squat? Remember Ray Lewis and that guy that he or a friend capped. Ray either knew who did it or capped the guy himself and got nothing but a slap on the wrist, if that. Sorry guys, I know dog fighting is nasty and illegal, but if the NFL and the US Judicial system let Ray Lewis(then MR. Superbowl) off for murder or obstruction of justice, why do you think it will nail Vick? Money is the bottom line with everything, but then again Vick's star has been falling for the past two seasons, so they might not give a crap and let him get his comuppance. I still say Vick will get probabtion and have to do some stuff for the Humane Society or PETA, and maybe a stiff fine. I don't see him going down for dog fighting. It all depends if the Falcons, the NFL, and the powers that be decide if Vick going to jail is going to hurt their bottom line.

Don't know how all this will play out, damn shame he won't get treated like normal folks. The money part is true, money talks.
One thing is for sure he's not on the HAPPY list in Atlanta with ownership or the fan base. We also, have a new COMMISH! Ready to crack down on the fools in the league with no regard for the law!
PSUSkinsFan21 05-21-2007, 08:30 AM Clinton keeps it real and says funny/stupid things all the time. I wouldn't give his comments a second look.
Nothing that Portis said here was funny......nothing.
PSUSkinsFan21 05-21-2007, 08:33 AM Mike Vick is not a bad guy.
Hmmm, really? Being implicated in a large scale dog fighting operation, intentionally giving an STD to someone, and flipping off kids at the end of a game in your own home stadium........what exactly does someone have to do to be considered a bad guy? Michael Vick is a piece of garbage, pure and simple.
Southpaw 05-21-2007, 10:12 AM Nothing that Portis said here was funny......nothing.
So Portis isn't bashing Vick for his alleged knowledge of dog fighting... who the hell cares?! Portis grew up in an area where he witnessed dog fighting from a young age, and it was apparently accepted in the community. What is he supposed to say? He doesn't care that Vick might be involved in dog fighting, but he should lie and say that he does care?
This issue is not as cut and dry as some people want to make it out to be. I'm a dog lover myself, but I personally don't care that a bunch of nasty, trained killing machines are fighting each other. I guess that makes me a bad person for not piling on the Michael Vick bash wagon.
