Seriously, I had almost posted a response to the same effect. My wife came late to the game but, now, screams hysterically at every good or bad play made. She may not be the most knowledgable fan, but she certainly is a fanatical fan.

My wife's a little more laid back nowadays but I hear stories from her family when she was a teenager screaming at the tv and weeping when particular sports events didn't go the way she wanted. We unpacked a box of hers during Super Bowl weekend (Bears fan, ugh) and she had so much fun recanting games from the 80's and times that she got to meet players.

I don't think the thread is getting bad. I think it's a great discussion and I will be the first to admit my own shortcomings in understanding the finer points of the game. That's one reason I joined a message board in the first place. I enjoy learning from you guys. I would think most guys would love it if their wives/girlfriends developed a love for the game. It might spare them the usual bitching they have to endure on game days.

Especially when I plan my Sunday around the Redskins game every time its on. I'm in Manhattan / Jersey so we have to watch the lame Jets and Giants all the time. Have to go out to the sportsbars b/c I'm out of range for Direct T.V. My girlfriend used to think it was really weird how into these games I would get. She would watch me yell and scream and be a nervous wreck watching the Redskins play. She is now a Redskins fan but I think its because of my extreme passion. Don't mind watching the game with her as long as she doesn't talk too much. By no stretch would I call Emma a real NFL fan though. Even though I love you Emma you're not a fan!!!! How many other guys have similar situations???

First, I want to be on record as saying I love the song "Kumbayah". Especially the version by Guadalcanal Diary.

Second, I have to retract my earlier post. Of course there are women who know and love football. Sally Jenkins just doesn't appear to be one of them. Camille Paglia knows a lot about football and I suppose she's a woman. I suspect she and I like a lot of the same things.

Furthermore, it was ridiculous of me to say that Natalie Gulbis should be driving the beer cart. She should be playing golf, from the ladies tees.

In closing, I want to say how much I appreciate the kindness all of you have shown in trying to educate and enlighten me. What you are doing is very important. You should all give yourselves a big hug. Before I was stumbling around in a prison of my own misguided beliefs, but now I'm free. Free to agree with all of you. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

It's okay man. We have your pink polo and "I'm man enough to need a hug" sticker all set to be sent to you.

Thank god you saw the light before we made you knit something.

This all brings me back to my original question. How many women are on this site?

In all honesty, it would be nice to get several women's perspectives on all this. Can we do that? I suppose if they are not on this site, then we can't do it here, unfortunately.
