Since my uncle is Earle Bruce(OHio Sate HC 1979-87), going to school in Michigan could be tough, but to be honest I was the one who was in your face about being a Buckeye fan. Never got in a fight, but a lot of debates. It helped that my uncle was the winningest Big Ten coach while he was there and had a 5-4 record against Bo. Hold your ground always with your fav team, no matter what, although last season with the Skins I did have my weak moments. Keeping Mark in at QB was just killing me. I wanted to see JC give it a try. I still think we might have pulled off a Wildcard if he started 5 weeks sooner.

I am from Gettysburg PA, and I can assure that if Gburg were to be given an NFL team they would at best be my second favorite team. If you jump ship to a new team just because they are closer to you you were never a real fan to begin with.

Exactly. I grew up IN the District. Not in the 'burbs, but actually in NW DC. When the Expos moved and became the Nats, I had love for 'em, but I grew up going to 20 Orioles games every summer. I love the Birds despite their constant futility (much like the Skins). I wasn't about to switch my loyalties.

College is a little different though. I grew up loving the Terps and the Hoyas, but I moved to Gainesville, went to the University of Florida, and have lived here for 8 years. I friggin' love the Gators. When I bleed, it's four colors: burgundy, gold, orange, and blue. I still cheer for the Terps and Hoyas, but the Gators have become "my team." It's easy though because they're in 3 different conferences (ACC, SEC, Big East) and rarely play each other in any sport.

You bring up an important point GMscud, one that I would like to address. The only time jumping ship on your team is permissable is if you like a college team and matriculate to a different school. I grew up a diehard Terps fan - my parents actually met there. When I went to Penn State I showed up with a closet full of Terps gear. Today I still like the Terps and root for them, but it's nothing compared to the love I feel for Penn State. There's just something about going to a school, knowing the players, connecting with old alumni, and remembering not just the games but the whole experience associated with going to the games, that can't be described.

So I think that's the one time you get a pass, because you don't chose to like your school's team, it's more like something that takes a hold of you. A passion kind of like Brokeback Mountain, except not gay.

I hear ya. I think it would be nearly impossible to live in Gainesville for an extended period of and not become a Gator fan (unless you're a Seminole or a fan of another SEC school).

I live in Richmond. And there r a lot of redskins fans here as well as other fans as u all know. I went to "Farm Aid 2006" in Camden NJ last September. It was a gloomy day when i got there and it sprinkled off and on all day. anyway i had a redskins hat on my head while at the show. i got the most horrible looks from everybody that i cared to look at. I'm sure it was just because of the hat. Then bout 1/2 way thru the sho, and when i was hurridley trying tio find a port' o let. A guy from Philly, just across the river. came up to me and was giving me big props for being the only person there other than himself sporting a redskins hat. and or having the balls to wear it .It was funny.Later on and when i got pretty drunk i was walking on the lawn and was met by the famous E-A-G-L-E-s Eagles!!!!!! chant by like a hundred or so of really wasted philly fans...at the time i thought I was going to be the punch line of a really bad eagle fan beat down joke...turned out that it wasnt to be and they we just pushing the buttons as it were... my point is ya gotta luv the fact that people r just soooo passionate about their teams just as we all "redskins" fans are.... got take it as well as give it. i root for the skins and Notre Dame only people give me a hrd time about the whole golden domer thing constantly. I just dont root for va teams. If they r in a bowl or whatever ill root for them to win but if they ever get into a game or bowl against ND u know the drill. Ive been a skins and Nd for for going on 35+yrs and not a bandwagon jumper.. all fans should be like us "real Loyal Fans"
