I think Gibbs gives the guys a little while to recharge and relax.

Hmmm, this is a hard one.

What I totally admire about Gibbs is his ability to adapt, experiment and change.
In the aftermath of a poor season, he has no fear to experiment from generally established rules. When you would have thought the team would ALL be living a Redskin park with six-a-day practices, they actually have more freedom in the off-season.
We'll see if it works

Yes, I think that Joe Gibbs' democratic, open minded decision to listen to the players' wishes, is going to make everyone, not just the ones who worked out at home, better prepared for the season.

Even the players who stayed had the choice to not be there. When you have to/must/are required to, etc. do something, you generally don't enjoy it, and you tend to be enervated by it to some degree. As far as off season workouts, where it doesn't really make a big difference where someone is when they are working out, to give people freedom to make their own decisions is going to give them a brighter outlook, more emotional energy, and reinforce their respect for Coach Gibbs and his leadership.

Actually, reading this article made me think of another thread about having the "disease" and this article really gave me my daily relapse. It really has me excited about the defense this year. The fact that Williams practically apologized for last season made me feel good. It showed that he must not be this hard assed know-it-all ALL of the time. I feel like after taking the D from #3, to #9, and to a dismal #31 last year he knows that his reputation as well as his "right to the throne" (as the Redskins Head Coach) may be in jeopardy. He asked for Smoot and Stoutmire back, and asked for Landry. Put confidence in his returning D-Line and I think that is going to give them a fire needed to make this unit better than they were last year. I'm pretty fired up.
A lot of people seem to forget that Sean Taylor has wonderful hands. The picks that he's racked up have shown that. He has an eye for the ball and can cover. Hopefully he doesn't gamble as much as he did last year. maybe he was coached too much last year. The secondary has depth, they are not all #1's , not even all #2's but the needed depth for the types of blitzes that we saw in '04 and '05 is there. You can blitz a Nickle, a one, or a two and have the coverage that is needed. Washington is geared up for his return but are his bone spurs going to cause a problem ?
Can the offenses familiarity with Al Saunders' system they should be able to improve on last years #14 rating ? A returning Clinton Portis to pair up with Ladell Betts who really stepped his game up last season when Portis was sidelined makes the running game even more dangerous that it already was. Can Brandol Lloyd silence his critics this year ? Will Todd Wade be able to hold down the Left Guard spot left vacant by Derrick Dockery ?
The players asked for that time off and they got it. Training Camp will be more intense than last years which should help the team. Gibbs showed them that he can give them what they ask for as long as they give him what he asks for.

FUCK I'M STOKED !!!! HAIL TO THE REDSKINS !!!!

Time will tell what type affect his newly adopted policy will have, but if it works for the players who felt it to be important to them, then that's all that matters. As long as they come to camp in shape and ready to perform then Gibbs will not feel he made a mistake. It's all about what works.

how the hell am i supposed to reply to this, when you guys don't have a clue on how to spell it? heres my take, losers look for excuses. the skins were losers last season, so they look for excuses on why. and winners stand pat in routine, hoping not to screw up the success
