12thMan 05-10-2007, 10:46 AM I think Dock's deal was much more a product of a hot guard market as opposed to his quality. Traditionally, safeties aren't earning that kind of pay (as least i don't think so), but neither were guards. Point being, i don't think you can translate Dock's deal to ST.
I'm not making a direct correlation in dollars, per se. But the fact that a guy like Dockery could command so much attention on the market, how much more could a game changer like Sean Taylor?
Actual dollars aside, teams would line up from here to Baltimore to get this guy on their team.

dont u just love him
Twilbert07 05-10-2007, 03:53 PM ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Joe Gibbs said Thursday he has had "no contact" with Sean Taylor and that the team has "lost contact" with Shawn Springs, leaving the Washington Redskins coach in limbo as to the status of the two starters missing from the team's spring practices.
"Obviously, it's disappointing," Gibbs said as the team wrapped up its third day of workouts. "We want everybody here."
The two defensive backs were the only no-shows when the team reconvened Tuesday after a longer-than-usual offseason break. Veterans were informally given leeway to do their offseason conditioning away from Redskins Park during March and April, but Gibbs was expecting everyone to attend the May and June practices.
Under league rules, players aren't required to attend any practices until the three-day minicamp in mid-June. Taylor has routinely been dismissive of any workouts not deemed mandatory, although he did participate in most of the offseason program last year.
Taylor has also stayed away in the past to express his displeasure over his contract, an issue that could arise again following the Redskins' decision to select another safety, LSU's LaRon Landry, with the No. 6 overall pick in the draft. Landry's contract is expected to be bigger than Taylor's.
"With Sean Taylor, I've had no contact whatsoever," Gibbs said. "I'm not aware of anything there, so that's about all I can say about it."
Springs, the team's top cornerback, has been the subject of trade rumors because of a contract that will cost the Redskins $7.4 million against the salary cap this season.
Gibbs said he had spoken to Springs extensively during the offseason -- including a sit-down during the NFL meetings in Phoenix in March -- and that the team had decided to keep the cornerback on the team under the current contract.
"Up to two weeks ago, we thought we were in real good shape," Gibbs said. "The coaches were talking to him, but then all of a sudden we lost contact."
Neither player's agent responded to requests for comment.
Gibbs, meanwhile, would prefer to hear something from the missing players. Any word is better than no word at all.
"I think it helps when you know what the situation is," Gibbs said, "and they'll talk to you and say 'This is what I don't like.'"
firstdown 05-10-2007, 04:07 PM That is all well and good but today's league doesn't work that way. Drafting Landry wasn't exactly a "vote of confidence". He knows that he is one of the most popular players and arguably the best player on the team. He deserved more money and I don't blame him for using his leverage. He certainly won't have more leverage next year when Landry has a year in the system under his belt.
You talk as if you have sat down with his agent and they told you this is why he is not here. If I'm correct he hasn't been to any of these as he likes to work out in FL. Remember when he got into that trouble a couple of years back it was the same thing. Your just making an issue out of something that you have no idea is even true.

Thanks for the information. If this is acurate its very disturbing.

Do you know what deductive logic is?
Why are so many people on this site blind? I read the Post and listen to Sportstalk 980; those are my main sources and I saw this coming a mile away. In fact I predicted the possibility of a hold-out sometime last year (most likely because of the idiotic contract they gave Archuletta).
Take the blinders off people. This organization literally pisses money away on a regular basis. Sean Taylor is a universally known commodity who deserves more money than Adam Archuletta and Laron Landry. He knows that and his agent know that and I would even guess that Daniel Snyder knows that. He is a guy who will put people in the seats so he deserves to get paid. I don't know how else to explain this to those of you who think that everything is merry in Ashburn. He has not spoken to anyone in the organization in weeks. He must have forgotten that the team has OTAs...
Hooskins asked me why I am overreacting. I don't view it as overreacting to promote an extension for our best player. Now when we sign a fourth stringer like David Macklin and then people ask what are we going to do with Carlos Rogers and Sean Springs? That is overreacting.

IMO he isn't our BEST player. Secondly, for what logical reason would you extend a player that has several years left on his contract at this point, with NICE INCENTIVES? To me that makes ZERO sense!
With ST you never know what your dealing with a mix between head case/ good player, yea of course he's a really good player. But it seems pretty clear he has some head issues.

So anytime a player gets extended it makes zero sense?
Lavar was extended
Samuels was extended
Thomas was extended
Jansen was extended
Lloyd was extended
Portis was extended
Moss was extended
I am sure that I have left a few out.
Those are examples ON JUST ONE TEAM.
So it makes zero sense to extend someone, then why does it happen all the time?

I said it makes ZERO sense to extend this (ST) player at this time, when he has several years left on his current contract WITH INCENTIVES.
What LOGICAL reason would they have to extend THIS PLAYER, NOT ALL these other names that have nothing to do with this thread?
jdlea 05-10-2007, 08:08 PM If he is pissed about his contract, I think he deserves an extension. I don't care what kinda message it sends. If it doesn't kill the cap, (which it probably wouldn't) it shouldn't be a problem. He's a very good player and if it can add years to his Redskins career, I'm all for it. I don't want to be worrying about his deal the way everyone is with Cooley (who should also be extended).
Dan Snyder won't miss any meals if he adds some more guaranteed money and base salary to Sean Taylor's contract.
