Talent of D varies

It is well known that our D-line is not good, but I was just thinking, and the 3 levels of our D are Excellent, Mediocre, and Horrible, the variance is just funny when you think about it.

Secondary-Excellent
Safeties- 2 young top 6 picks in Taylor and Landry, 2 quality players who could easily fill in as starters in Prioleau and Stoutmire, and a quality backup who would normally be the 3 or 4 spot at safety in Fox (Im not counting Doughty because I do not think he will be on our team next year)
Corners- Springs is getting up there in years, but he is still a quality number 1 who was the number 3 overall pick, his only problem is his health, but even if he gets hurt, we have 2 other quality corners who will be able to fill in for him in the number 9 pick of Rogers who will be real good in his 3rd NFL season and in Smoot who fits in terriffic in our system. We also have a decent number 4 slot in Macklin who was the nickle in Arizona, and Jimoh isnt really worth mentioning considering how bad he is when not playing on special teams. Even with multiple injuries to starters we will still be fine, even at nickle.

Linebackers-Mediocre
MLB-Fletcher used to be a stud, but his age worries me, so I say he will be OK. Marshall is a good backup, but he is a better backup at OLB, I dont know about Blades and Campbell is just a special teamer
OLB-Washington is good but has questions about his health, and he also seems to be on the downside of his career. McIntosh also has questions about his health, but is unproven despite him looking like he will be quality. Marshall should be a quality backup and I dont know about Startz.

D-Line-Sucks harder than Paris Hilton
DE-Carter should be a quality pass rusher, but nothing spectacular, Griffin isnt what he used to be, Golston is promising but two small DT's starting isnt good-especially when it produced as bad of a run D as it did last year. Saleve'a is junk, and there are no good backups, not Boshetti, not Montgomery. We cant even talk about being deep at DE because we dont even have anything shallow. Our starting DE Daniels has the talent of a 4 spot DE. Evans is junk, and Wynn is horrible. Not to mention how old Wynn and Daniels are, and therefore are just getting worse and worse.

I don't agree with your assessment of our linebackers. I think that they're actually one of the strong points on our team. Fletcher still plays at a high level, Washington is still great, and I bet a healthy Marshall in his natural position plays much better.

I agree that when they are all healthy it will be good, but Washington is coming off major surgery (and although he is still good, is without a doubt not what he once was), McIntosh seems to have bad knees(and is unproven), and Fletcher is old and we wont know how good he will be. Just the uncertainty of the situation made me put mediocre

Not sure if you want to call arthroscopic surgery "major". While sometimes it can be used to do repairs... arthroscopic literally means your looking at the joints.

McIntosh had the same thing, just for his knee.

I recall a player having arthroscopic surgery a week or two before a Monday night game and still playing. Sometimes it's nothing. I really wouldn't be worried about it.

I didnt say McIntosh had major surgery, i said Washington did, he had hip surgery. McIntosh just straight up has bad knees, nothing that bad but worth noting.

i hope like hell someone in redskin park knows what the hell they are doing. while i feel Landry will be a good pro, i hate the pick. we need us some d linemen that can play

I think a lot of you all are underestimating this line.

They weren't up to full speed last year because the secondary was suspect. Now the secondary shouldn't be as suspect so I think they'll be going full speed this year. Not just doing run stunts.

I like the Fletcher addition and the Holdman subtraction. McIntosh should get some time and if Washington is healthy he'll still be a stud (he's only 28 I think).

As for the line, Carter did seem to get comfortable at the end of the year. If Griffin can stay healthy, our tackle rotation is at least decent, since Golston did show some signs. I still want to see us get another big tackle, just to put in the rotation. A pass rushing defensive end, well that will have to wait another year...

I really think by having Fletcher teams shouldn't be able to just run right at Carter so much. I think Pierce did a much better job of getting us into position, we didn't give up nearly so many big plays when AP was running things and I think a lot of that is just being in the wrong defense initially.

Secondary goes from being a weakness to a strength, our back seven should be a lot more active, get more sacks, and give up fewer explosive plays.

I don't agree that the defensive line is that horrible. And obviously with the way the offseason has gone the team also doesn't see the line as the weakest aspect of the D. Our major pickups have been at LB and DB, clearly the team felt these areas were more of a concern.
