Wynn restructuresSmootSmack 04-29-2007, 10:15 AM I'm eagerly anticipating the questions Beem will have for Wynn when we have our chat with him. skinsfan69 04-29-2007, 10:27 AM Can someone please explain why Wynn gets such a pass with Redskins fans? Check these numbers: Through 16 games in 2005, he had 24 tackles and one-half sack. Last year, in 15 games he had 14 tackles. That's it. The guy is a complete bum who should have retired 5 years ago. He is one of the reasons people around the league think this team is a laughingstock. The loyalty some people have for Renaldo Wynn is absolutely baffling. Man, I agree w/ you 100%. Keeping Wynn around is simply ridicules. But this does not guarantee he makes the team does it? Couldn't someone come in and beat him out? skinsfan_nn 04-29-2007, 10:45 AM Can someone please explain why Wynn gets such a pass with Redskins fans? I think it's nothing more than a rotation signing, nothing more than depth. With a paycut. Hopefully he will have a decent season. Big C 04-29-2007, 10:48 AM wynn is a good guy to have in the locker room, and he has never in his career been a dynamic pass rusher so if ur gonna pull up stats showing a lack of sacks you arent showing anyone anything new. he didnt even start last year so yet again showing last year's stats does little. every team needs depth, and we now have cheaper depth at DE and keep that leadership 724Skinsfan 04-29-2007, 11:14 AM wynn is a good guy to have in the locker room, and he has never in his career been a dynamic pass rusher so if ur gonna pull up stats showing a lack of sacks you arent showing anyone anything new. he didnt even start last year so yet again showing last year's stats does little. every team needs depth, and we now have cheaper depth at DE and keep that leadership Well said, Big C! MTK 04-29-2007, 11:20 AM What better option do we have right now?? He's not starter material anymore but in a rotation he's a quality veteran backup. Jamaican'Skin 04-29-2007, 11:21 AM So Im assuming this move means we're going after someone after June 1 cuts, or are we just freeing up space for rookie signings? Daseal 04-29-2007, 11:23 AM The defensive line in Williams' scheme often isn't used to pressure the QB. Their job is to eat up blocks and work vs the run. That keeps our linebackers and safeties free to make plays, rush the QB, and play the run. Our defensive line 'needs' have been over inflated on this site. Williams puts his corners on islands and uses everyone else on the field to create pressure. MTK 04-29-2007, 12:36 PM The defensive line in Williams' scheme often isn't used to pressure the QB. Our defensive line 'needs' have been over inflated on this site. Williams puts his corners on islands and uses everyone else on the field to create pressure. I agree. As I said in another thread I think a lot of us got too focused on the defensive line and forgot that our secondary was pretty piss poor last year too. Landry will hopefully be what we thought AA was going to be. An in the box safety that will be stout against the run and will also be a serious blitz threat. JWsleep 04-29-2007, 12:39 PM About having a plan: the plan is pick up the pieces. There wasn't a good enough DLman at 6, and no good trade down offer. So they pick up AA's replacement (obviously a position that Williams thinks is crucial to his style of D), resign Wynn for a paycut (the only way he stays around, even with his vaunted leadership skills), and then we see what there is in the late rounds and in late FA. And then we make do. I see no other options for even the most gifted of GMs here on the warpath, given that we've traded away all our picks this year, and blown it with AA and LLoyd (verdict is still out on ARE, Rocky, and JC, though I remain optimistic). When you've handcuffed yourself, there's not a lot you can do. But now that we're here, resigning Wynn with a paycut is fine. But it obviously is only a thin and used bandaid for our D line troubles... |
