The Perfect Scenario that might actually Happen

With the draft fast approaching allow me to outline the best senario that might actually happen for the skins. First, I must point out the fact that any reasonable fan understands that we need Dline help. Though Landry is an excellent player, drafting him and ignoring the dline would be one of the dumbest moves in the history of redskins football.

1. Oakland drafts Calvin Johnson In order for this to happen the dolphins must cut culpepper and the raiders would then sign him.

2. Detroit drafts Gaines Adams. Adams would be the best player to drop to the skins but that simply is not gonna happen. Maranelli being a Tampa 2 guy values pass rushers more than any other position.

3. Browns draft Jamarcus Russell. The fact that Bronws GM Savage has known Russell since high school gives him the edge over Quinn.

4. Bucs- draft Adrian Petterson. This is by far the most unlikely pick in my senario because the bucs really don't need a RB. The possiblity exists that some team will trade to this spot to get Petterson.

5. Cardinals draft Joe Thomas. New coach Wisenhunt and Russ Grimm know you build offense with a QB and offensive line. Thomas is the best guy to protect Matt leinart blind side for the next 10 years.

6. Skins - A biding war begins for the services of Brady Quinn between the Vikings and Dolphins. Both teams offer to swope first round picks and their second round pick. The skins take the deal with the vikings because this keeps them in front of Atlanta who will draft Okoye if he's still on the board.

"With the 7th pick in the 2007 NFL draft the Washington Redskins select Amobi Okoye."
Okoye is gonna be a special player. He has the rare ability to rush the passer and collapse the pocket. He will help in both run support and the pass rush. He reminds a lot of Warren Sapp, with his unique combination of quickness and power. Furthermore, he's a character guy who is only gonna get sooo much better.

"With the 41st pick the Washington Redskins Select Anthony Spencer or Ben Grubbs." Depending on who is still on the board.

Spencer is gonna surprise people in the NFL. He's been written off because he doesn't have the measurables. But that is all crap. This guy is an exceptionaly instictive player. THe guy had 93 tackles as a defensive end. That is remarkable for a player at that postion. Furthermore, he has great quickness as evidence from his 26.5 tackles for a loss. I'm gonna come out on a limb here and say he will be better than any other DE from this years class with the exception of Gaines Adams. A steal in the second round if he falls that far.

This scenario would never happen. Tampa would definately trade out if cj was picked, and they would never draft peterson with williams. Also, if CJ were to be drafted first, a the bidding war would start with detroit, then cleveland would stay put, then the bidding war would start with tampa, then there might be some bids to trade with arizona because if joe thomas is not taken by then, wash, minn, mia, and atl all dont want him, so they would be safe trading to any of those. And if minn or atl trades, they wont trade with washington because all of our top people are okoye and landry (except minn who doesn t want okoye).

I fully agree Spencer will be a steal. I've mentioned him on nearly every thread related to the draft this offseason. I'd love to have him.

But will the Vikings really give us a 2nd round pick just to move one spot to get a guy they know we have no interest in drafting in the first place? We'd be robbing them. The only way this would work would be if we had a draft and trade plan in place with Miami in case Minnesota says no to the pick swap.

I also do not see the Bucs drafting Adrian Peterson.

Yes they would be willing to trade up one spot to take Quinn Because if they don't they will miss out on him to the dolphins. If they truely want quinn we tell them we have any offer from Maimi to trade up, they then must respond!

Some of your arguments don't make any sense. While I agree with you on Tampa bay not taking Peterson(I noted this in my post) and its true that Detroit and and tampa will listen to trade offers, that doesn't change the fact the players like Johson, Joe Thomas, Jamercus Russell, Gaines Adams are gonna be drafted in the top end of the draft. You have to try to analize who is gonna fall out of the top five. I believe its gonna be either Peterson or Quinn. Its benefits the Redskins if Quinn falls out and sparks a bidding war between the vikings and dolphins.

The Browns gave the Lions a 2nd to move up one pick and take Kellen Winslow in 04. It's the exact same situation.

I would be thrilled to get Spencer in the second but he's being talked about as a first round talent. Grubbs too.

There are a lot of "ifs" in your scenario, but at least all of them are plausible. In fact, your post has an awful lot in common with a few articles I've read on Si.com and espn.com.

As for suggestion that teams do not give up more than what the draft pick value chart suggests is wise, don't be surprised to see a few such "illogical" trades on draft day. As was pointed out in the reference to the Winslow trade, if a team wants a guy bad enough, they'll throw the draft pick value chart out the window.

Hmmmm, the Browns and the Lions, huh? What stellar decision making those teams have.

All I said is that we'd be robbing them, and according to a draft value chart we would be- by 390 points, or the equivalent of the 51st overall pick. But they do desperately need a QB. They are similar to the Skins in that consistency at QB has killed them over the past several years. I'd be thrilled if it happened, but like Sheriff said, we need some "ifs" to go our way.

i dont see this happening at all. Aside from the whole peterson thing not going through the other big flaw is that the redskins will not get a 2nd rd pick for moving down one spot even if it is for Quinn's rights. A 3rd rounder is more likely.
