Wow. I like that mock draft. It's different than the others I've seen in the major media outlets. This guy actually had the balls to predict some trades. I can certainly see Tampa switching places with Detroit. I know how much the Bucs covet Calvin Johnson, and the Lions have made no secret about how they want out of that #2 pick.

Justin Harrell and Anthony Spencer, huh? Two guys who could vastly improve our D-line. One's an end, one's a tackle... I like it. Harrell's a beast. He played against Florida last year despite having a torn biceps. Tough as nails.

The talk of Miami cutting Daunte Culpepper, possibly picking up Trent Green, and then looking to draft a top signal caller in the draft offers the skins an interesting possibility. If Brady Quinn falls to the skins at 6, then they may very well be able to get much more from the Dolphins by swopping picks with them...and dropping to 9th overall, than from Atlanta (who would prolly be looking to trade up for Landry from 8th overall. Then at 9th overall they would still have a chance to pick up a top notch dline player like okoye, while prolly netting a 2nd round pick in the process from Miami. This would be ideal in my mind. What do you guys think??? Realistic??

Our front office would definately do this, the problem is that NE's front office is super smart and they are great at drafting, which is why this trade would never happen, its not good for NE who builds through the draft, not through a few select impact players.

Until this year this wouldn't seem like a move NE would make, but after they shelled out some relatively big $ in free agency this year, they may be more inclined to go after Landry if they feel he can make an impact immediately.

I do agree w/the idea, we could have our problems solved for several years provided Golston & Carter maintain.

so with both gaines adams and okoye on the board the skins trade down to draft two far less talented defenders at those positions...i dont think so

Its not just a talent thing, its a risk-reward economic thing. None of these guys have proven themselves in the NFL, and with the 6th pick we would have to pay our pick a ton of cash to an unproven guy who could be a bust. We could possibly solidify two positions that we will need help in instead of one with paying far less, and instead of putting all our eggs in the basket of one 1st rounder who has more potential, we would have another guy to fall upon from this draft if our 1st pick doesnt pan out. Unless we are in love with one of these guys, we should definately trade down.

if that trade happened we would be getting jipped 200 points on the value chart. they would have to throw in a third as well to get near equal

You beat me to the punch. My initial instinct was this could be a good move, especially if we could be Harrell and Spencer. As Big C points out, though, that would mean leaving the equivalent value of a pretty high (#78 overall) third round pick on the table so bad move. Also, no guarentee that Harrell or Spencer would be there in those spots. Harrell is apparently moving up draft boards pretty quickly after a very good on-campus workout and I've seen him projected as high as #15. After him the DT prospects seem to drop off pretty quickly. If NE would throw in the 3rd to make up the different then you'd almost have to make that deal though. Seems like a large bounty, but I've heard nothing but good things about Landry so maybe they think that is their ticket back to the SB.

Where do you guys find your numbers on the draft value as it relates to individual picks? I'd love to see this chart.

Ive never seen it with my own two eyes, but it does exist. They talked about it for days during last years draft on NFL network.

NFL Draft Value Chart

It is now common practice for NFL teams to follow a “draft value chart,” which assigns numeric values to every draft pick from No. 1 to the final pick in the seventh round, No. 262. The idea of the chart is to create a standard for assessing fair value for trades. Each team creates their own draft value chart based upon their assessment of the draft and strength of the players at each position.

The chart only works with trades involving draft picks traded for picks. When players are involved, it changes everything.

The chart is just a guide. If a team likes a certain player they might be willing to give up more value points worth of picks in order to get their man. Likewise, a team not happy with its position might be willing to accept less in return than the chart might suggest to move down a few spots. Below is an example of a draft value chart. This is not a a chart which is used by any particular NFL team and is only an example of the what might be used by teams in assessing a trade.
