artmonkforhallofamein07 04-15-2007, 12:31 PM I think our defense has been vastly improved over the product that was on the field last year, and while I agree with most everyone that we should not make the Briggs deal having another great LB would not be to bad. I really want one of the DE in the draft. Draft a DT after next year considering we drafted 2 lat year and they did show some improvement through out the season. Cedric Golston still could be a good DT in this league if he continues to improve his game. I also think that Wynn and Daniels are on he downside of thier careers.

Griffin, when healthy, along with Carter are the only veterans on the D-line that would command more than the vet. minimum on most teams. We did draft two DT's last year, and I'm sure their potential for development will influence our draft stragedy where the D-line is concerned. Without a doubt we have both age and injury concerns along the defensive front and some upgrades should be welcomed.
skinsfan69 04-15-2007, 01:59 PM Ugh, this article reiterates that the Briggs deal could still happen. I'm gonna reiterate that I hope it doesn't (unless we also get a 3rd rd pick).
And I would really like to see us trade with Atlanta for their 8th pick so they can move up and get Landry, we could get Okoye at 8 and pick up the Falcons 3rd round selection.
Shouldn't this thread be in the draft forum?
Why would Atl. move up to pick Laundry? He should be sitting there by the time they pick. Don't you think?

The line needs to be upgrade BADLY. We need a DE or two, and a tackle or two. But one guy isn't going to make a huge difference. Alot is going to depend on the guys we currently have. Can Griff get back to his 04-05 level of play? Can Joe S. and Goldston play better? Daniles, Wynn, Evans and Carter are not full time guys IMO. So we have the most need at end.
skins009 04-15-2007, 02:43 PM Our defense will not improve untill we get some Dlinemen. We need a pass rusher more than anything. THe interesting thing is there is a unique player in this draft who can both rush the passer amd penetrate to stuff the run and his name is Omobi.
wolfeskins 04-15-2007, 03:10 PM Good depth has yet to be determined. Remember Smoot got cut for a reason. He played on the worst pass defense in the NFL and then he got benched. Carlos has not played very well. Springs might not be here and if he is can he stay on the field. And this new guy Macklin, well I don't know anything about him.
all true and all good points but i'll say this , smoot played pretty good in greg williams system and i would hope he will again. smoot did not "fit in" the minn. defense, they play the tampa two. smoot should be the skins #3 cb (maybe #2)
carlos was thrust into the #1 spot and he clearly was not ready for it but i do think he learned plenty while being the #1 guy and i think he will rebound nicely this year and be the #2 guy (maybe #3)
springs is definately a question mark. if he stays and if he's healthy he will be the teams #1 cb and IMO he's a top 5 corner when healthy.
i don't know much about macklin either but a few teams offered him more money than the skins so i'm guessing he's a pretty good corner.
overall i think the skins are in good shape in the cb area.

because there is talk that the skins or minn. might draft him first.

I have heard some draft analysts say that if Brady Quinn is off the board the Vikings could take Landry at 7. Moving up to 6 would pretty much guarantee ATL could get him.

So out of Champ Bailey, Nate Clements, Chris McAlister, DeAngelo Hall, and Antoine Winfield -- which of these guys isn't as good as Shawn Springs?
4 or 5 years ago Springs might have made it into the top five, but even in tip-top shape, he doesn't quite make it today.
I agree with you though, our secondary is as good as it's going to get. We're set there -- but let's wait to see if the coaching staff agrees.

i'd take a healthy springs over nate, deangelo and antonio, those 3 guys are good but springs is just as good as them.
champ and chris are better though.
