dblanch66 04-14-2007, 01:18 PM Riggins definitely deserved it, but Theismann was so "aware" in that game. He really did save the game with that tip away from Bokamper. As far as the Terry Orr play against Denver, that was HUGE! Almost as huge as the
3rd down pass to Monk to get the Skins out of their own endzone in the 1st quarter.
I agree the tip that Theismann had was probably the game saver. I'm not taking anything away from it. But Riggins' TD rumble was a huge play as well and really broke the Dolphins' will.
skinsfan69 04-14-2007, 02:12 PM That tipped play at the end zone is one of the more underrated plays in Redskins history. It's like when Terry Orr recovered the fumble by Rickey Sanders (I think) on the kickoff return after it was 10-0 in SB XXII. The Broncos recover there and it's a whole other ball game.
Not sure if anyone remembers but there was a HUGE no call by the refs that day. When Williams twisted his knee, he actually fumbled the ball and Denver recovered it. However the refs blew it dead. If they had called it a fumble which they should have Denver would have had the ball in our territory up 10-0. Not sure if it would have made a difference but the momentum would have really swung in Denver's favor.
htownskinfan 04-14-2007, 02:34 PM Can't agree with you there.
38 carries for 166. Both were Superbowl records and Riggins completely dominated the 4th quarter.
after the td run,Riggins did dominate on that 1 series that resulted in their last td,but that was after miami's back was broken and the hogs had punished them all game, how about they should have been co-mvps? lol
One thing that did surprise me after Riggins td run I saw Joe Washington running out there to congratulate him and he didnt get a single carry that game,Clarence Harmon got all the other carrys,I cant remember if he was hurt or what,he was in uniform,he was the 2nd leading rusher that yr and Harmon was a close third, coaches descision I guess

I remember it vividly,it was def a fumble, game could have def turned out different if broncos go up 17-0,or maybe it would have turned out 42-17 lol
we def could have scored more points in that game,we took it easy on them in the 2nd half

i agree. 42-17 or 42-13. either way the onslaught was coming.
redskinsfanatic 04-14-2007, 05:53 PM riggins won that game for the skins, not joe t.the best play he made the whole game was keeping bokamper from intercepting a batted pass in the 3rd quarter.i love joe t,but riggins deserved the mvp more than he did!

Yeah and the interpretation that the refs had for that call was that Williams was in the act of "giving himself up" and that is why they blew the whistle. I don't care how one slices it, it still was a fumble.

maybe Riggins did deserve it,like I posted before I think co-mvps would have been great, when was the last time anybody watched this complete game? not highlights, but the whole game,I think if you rewatched you'd have a better appreciation for theismans performance
4mrusmc 04-14-2007, 08:10 PM Theismann played solid. He had two picks though. Riggins deserved it. But what I remember about that game was how our defense shut down the Dolphins in the 2nd half. I don't think Miami got a 1st down in the 2nd half. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Ritchie P. does not seem to get enough credit in this town. It all goes to Gibbs becasue he was the HC. But Ritchie was one of the great defensive coordinators in the history of the NFL.
Yeah, well said buddy! I think that you are old school like me (DOB 1969). The one thing about Joey T. is that he played with mad heart, and passion. I don't know if any of you guys listen to the John Riggins show or not, but in their top of the hour show intro, when you hear Joey T. yells out, "YELLOW 31, YELLOW 31, HUT 1, HUT 2!" Man, hearing that makes the goose bumps come out. Do any of you guys feel the same way?
