If Chargers can get a 1st & 3rd for Turner, don't we have to shop Betts?

A little late now don't you think? He's already a big part of our plans for next year and Gibbs seems pretty set on reducing the workload for Portis.

Got that right, after the past season Gibbs is starting to realize that Betts is his best back, and he signed a system back in Portis, he is now in the process of easing the transition to reduce the amount of egg on his face, and to try to avoid hurting Clinton's feelings. As if I didn't see this coming.

It assumes that everyone has an equal amount of success running in Denver when clearly Portis, Mike Anderson, and Terell Davis stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Portis and Betts were drafted in the same year in the same round. Seriously what grounds do you have to say that one or the other is a system back? If anything, Betts should be considered the system back because he hasn't done it anywhere but here.

I don't see how this trade could help us. I admit he had a good season last year filling in for CP, but that doesn't raise his value that much. We won't see a 1st round pick. Once again "IF" we did, I think we should at least consider it with the holes on defense that we need to fill.

Or maybe he's just seen the benefit of having two quality backs, like a lot of teams in this league are doing now. And given the fact Portis is coming off a serious injury it only makes sense to ease him back in rather than giving him 350 carries given the fact he's had a 1300+ yard season here and a 1500+ yard season.

Portis is still the better back and he's definitely not a system back, don't kid yourself. Your system back argument doesn't hold much water anymore.

The way the offensive line was playing in the 2nd half of last year Rock Cartwright would have probably had similar success to Betts.

The above link says backup RB Michael Turner is visiting Buffalo and Tenn. I later heard Clayton on ESPN radio state that it was a very real possibility that Turner would sign with Buffalo, and they would then give up a 1st and 3rd rounder. If that's the case, shouldn't the Skins FO be shopping Betts? He's not an every down back for the season (injuries) and he does seem to fumble at times. With his contract, I would think the Skins could get a 1st and a 3rd for him too.

No way we trade Betts w/ Portis coming off the injuries he's had. Why is everyone so quick to want to get rid of a guy who played very well last season? It's called quality depth people!!!!!

And who says SD is going to get a 1st and a 3rd? I doubt Buffalo will give that up for Turner. Just because the guy is visiting these teams does not mean the teams are going to give up that amount of compensation.

Calling Portis a "system" back is ridicules. I'm not even going to comment any further.

Portis is a quality back with any team... he just bounces around to much for the Redskin sytem... we need someone who will hit a hole and hit it hard.

I don't think CP "bounces" too much. Every now and then he shows some dance moves in the backfield, but he is a pretty tough runner when he needs to be - he is pretty much a one cut runner w/ the ability to do more (it is b/c he doesn't "dance" that he was so good in the Denver system - which is a one cut system). In fact, CP's biggest problem, IMHO, is that he is a big back in small back body and, consequently, takes a beating for it.

If Portis had been full speed at the end of last year, he would've made 1800+ yards behind that line. He is just quicker and faster than Betts (who I also happen to like).

I think Portis will really explode in this offense. He just never got comfortable last year with a new offense and mostly due to the injury which altered his running style and aggressiveness.

I wouldn't be so sure of that, one of the reasons for Betts success last season with the same line is the fact that he hit's the hole much faster than Portis, and he hit's it with more power and drive. Yes Portis is faster over all but that only helps after you have reached the secondary, it is better to be faster to the hole than in the secondary. Portis is exactly what I thought he was when we traded for him, he's a 3rd down change of pace type back who was made to look better than he really is in that denver system as were many backs. My biggest problem with Portis as a player is not the fact that he can't be a good back if used the way he's supposed to, the problem is we gave up a ton to get a guy who really isn't an everydown type back. So now he has added to much weight to try and handle the beating an every down back takes and it has taken away from his biggest attribute and that is his explosion.
