It depends on the situation of your team. Besides defensive line, we don't have a ton of really weak areas. We should go for the best player available. I don't like it, but we've hidden our defensive line for all but one year. While I think we need to address it eventually, if there's a top tier player there I wouldn't pass it up.

Alan Branch = Jimmy Kennedy

Amobi Okoye = Fixture at DT for the next 13 years.

we need defense. its plain and simple. Calvin Johnson might bring hi-lites, but adds no more wins. for me, the wins are the thing

What about Landry instead of the best defensive lineman/dt/de (whatever you prefer) ?

I always would draft for the best available player.

If each player has a certain amount of wattage in terms of their ability to positively effect their teams performance, would you pick a 10 watt player over a 1000 watt player, just because the 10 watt player is where you have a "need?"

The best thing is in my view to accumulate the most overall wattage for your team. Then, with the most wattage possible, you are in the best position to trade other players and so forth to bring your team into balance.

Wattage. Interesting.

Well, if my choices are 1000 "watts" vs 10 "watts", what you're really telling me is one guy is 100 times better than the other. Well yeah, duh, I'll take the 1000 watt guy. But there are no prospects on the board who are 100 times better than the others. Not even close. Calvin Johnson included. Of course, Calvin is a moot point for us, he'll be gone by the time we pick.

With that in mind, I'd stick to need. Our biggest need is depth at multiple spots, DT being the biggest need IMO. I'd trade down if possible. Otherwise, stick at 6 and pick DT.

I don't like the idea of trading Betts but the deal brings you a 3rd round pick that you don't have. If Lloyd could be substituted for Betts then yeah lets do it. Calvin Johnson upgrades your entire offense. Teams would have to pay attention to him which opens up the offense for Cooley, Moss, Portis, and Randel El. Campbell has a big target receiver that he can work with. No more stacking 8 in the box because you have to back up for wither Moss or a 4.3 running 6'5 tall Calvin Johnson. Who's left to cover Cooley underneath or Portis in the flat ? Seriously, the passing game would be upragded. Given the chance that it's Lloyd instead of Betts now, you use your 3rd round pick to get your DL. I know it's not going to be a baller like Okoye but you never know. Just like you never know about Johnson or any other player out of the draft.

This all given the fact that it's not Ladell Betts. It depends on the situation. But if you can ship Lloyd out instead of Betts then you do that to get Calvin Johnson,....AND A 3RD ROUNDER !!!!!! Oh yeah, take that one. So in that case draft player but anyother I say need.

However, in the case of Madden. DRAFT CALVIN JOHNSON !!!! Not since the days of Darnerian McCants have I had a tall WR to throw to. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF MADDEN 08 DRAFT CALVIN JOHNSON !!!!

why couldn't he bring wins? I mean a good wide reciever changes offense, Santana Moss pretty much won us the jag game last year and the dallas game the year before that

in my opinion, Gaines Adams works the best for the redskins. instant pass rush = better secondary play. with fletcher, we have a bon a fide run stopping middle linebacker. Landry is a nice player, but will be making too many tackles 10+ yards down field. why do you thing Sean Taylor had so many tackles last season? no resistance from the front four. and how long has it been since the skins had a pass rusher? dexter manley?

Do you think that Gaines Adams will equal to instant pash rush ? (Not being argumentative, just interested in different perspectives)
