I'm sure there have been scumbags throughout the history of the NFL, we just hear about them more now.
Listening to the Riggins show right now and an interview with the club owner in LV with the Pacman fracas. His ass is going AWAY......... the club owner is reporting that the incredible statements, death threats, assaults, and attempted murders that occurred are COMPLETELY covered by more than 25 securty camera's. Naturally they have been gladly surrendered to the LVPD. More than 12 eye witness's are also prepared to testify. I suggest he learn to love the movie...........Deliverance

I agree that is part of it, but there is another issue with today's modern athletes. Most of them have been coddled by their parents/coaches/teachers since they were very young. A lot of these guys never grow into adults, they stay in this stage of perpetual adolescence because they have learned that there are little or no consequences to their actions and no one has ever held them accountable for anything.
That is a relatively new phenomenon and I think it contributes significantly to the behavior problems you see with today's players in most major sports.
Start dropping these guys from the league (as Goodell's new conduct policy will do), and you will see behavior improve a bit, but the problem really starts much earlier.

Unfortunately the culture of big time college/pro sports breeds this crap. These guys are told how good they are for so long and are given so many free passes that their sense of morals becomes severely skewed. And they go through life dodging the consequences of their actions based on their status. Eventually it catches up with them. What else is a shame is that so many of the people who surround these athletes are in it for the money, and offer no real tutelage or guidance. They simply encourage the athlete to do whatever brings the biggest paycheck. Sigh.... This is sad.
