I don't know if you guys have ever used the Draft Value chart, but it is this chart that assigns points to each draft pick so GM's don't make another Mike Ditka mistake or Hershel Walker trade.

According to the Chart, this deal means you are giving away your 6th and the equivalent of a 16th pick for Briggs and the 31st pick.

A first rounder at 16 is usually a starter and pretty cheap relatively speaking in terms of the salary cap.

I don't think this deal makes sense for the Redskins. Not sure how we are lossing two picks with this deal. We are just trading our #1 for theirs.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough.

Your 6th pick is worth - according to the chart - a 16th and a 31st.

So Briggs, in effect, is assigned the value of a first round #16 pick.

I think what he means is that we are getting two first round picks for this trade. Heres the math

The Redskins pick is worth 1600 points
The Bears pick is worth 600 points
The 16th pick is worth 1000 points. This means that we're assuming that Briggs is worth the right to pick 16th overall in the draft.

Not sure how we are lossing two picks with this deal. We are just trading our #1 for theirs. Well if we find a strong D linemen at 31 and get Briggs we will all say wow who wrong we were. I hope so! Note: Danny and Gibbs get another pick in the deal!

Not following your logic on the picks.

How excited are Bears fans about this deal right now? You lose a guy who plans on sitting out this season anyways and you move up 25 spots to the #6 pick, which you can then use to get an instant starter or you can trade to someone like Denver for even more picks.Me and a few of my Bear fan friends were discussing this last night.

Does this trade even make sense for the Bears?

On one hand, you are getting GREAT value in a move up from 31 to 6 for merely a linebacker. But lets assume that the top 5 picks are as follows: Russell, Thomas, Quinn, Johnson, and Adams.

Who are the Bears going to take at 6. There's Landry, but they have a glut of safeties already. Peterson is there, but they already have Benson. It's too early to take the 2nd best lineman or receiver. They have no need for DL help.

That leaves them either reaching for Patrick Willis to replace Briggs, or trading down yet again (or trading up into the top 4 I guess). If they were going to snatch up Willis, why not just keep the established vet (Briggs) around for at least one more year?

Unless Quinn, Thomas, or Johnson do fall, the Bears really don't have a good pick at 6. It may not be worth it for them to make this deal, despite all the value they are getting for Briggs.

If this was happening to the Redskins-young, all-pro linebacker threatens to hold out because the front office won't pay him-fans would be calling for heads to roll. People are throwing up a storm over Dockery, imagine what it would be like for someone of Briggs' caliber. But since it's not the Redskins, but the Bears there's no talk of "why don't the Bears just give Briggs the money he's asking for"

Didn't the poll on Dock overwhelming say that people would like to have him back but not at the insane price? You know what is ironic, I bet the Bears would trade Briggs for the 2nd we traded for Rocky McIntosh last year, especially if we threw in the Third we traded for Duckett or the 4th (in addition to the 3rd) we traded for Llyod. Snyder is a menace . . . someone lock that bastard in his room!! No more bar hopping and no more talking to Drew Rosenhaus, he has some kind of weird spell over him.

So you're saying this deal makes sense for neither of the parties involved? Wonderful.
