It's a moot point cause he is not going to be at 6. No way he gets past TB.

Yeah, really. He might not last past Cleveland at #3.

Wow. I'm the only vote for pass on him.

Packaging the 6th would be an ideal option, but it would have to be worth it. Right now, trading down looks like we miss out on Okoye to me. I don't want that. He's such a unique prospect, and this is our only chance to get him.

If the Vikings would give up a 2nd to move up one spot for him, I would want that trade. But that's the only reasonable trade I'd take.

No your not. I'll Pass, and get more picks.... in my opinion.
If we stay at six and he's there.....which he won't be! OK, DREAM ON
This guy is gonna go no latter that TOP 4 inthe draft!

If it happens, and that's an immensley huge if, I'd want him in the fold unless somebody made a ricky williams type deal for the pick. I understand the dline needs some new young talent but absolutely nothing has shown me that any of the dline guys we would be looking at @ #6 r worth a top 10 pick. they all just seem like they would be late 1st rounders to me whereas Johnson is the kind of wr you only see every few years. With the amount of holes on the d, I'd personally go the Colts route and have a stacked offense and hope that last years defensive let down was a fluke and that the coaches r able to find another golston type player that can be part of the d-line rotation. Johnson just seems like one of the most sure fire picks since Fitzgerald to become an upper echelon players whereas dline has consistently shown is a giant crap shot.

It wasn't a fluke. It was age setting in - nothing more, nothing less. Unless the D-line guys can find a magical way of aging in reverse, it'll be WORSE next season until they draft somebody to do something about it.

for the sake of arguement, why do you want him here so bad? and how do you think our defense will play with the same guys from last season?

It's not that I want him so bad, it just makes too much sense to me. For one thing we didn't have a clear cut number two receiver last year. Not Lloyd and not Randle El. In fact, after Campbell came on the scene Cooley was his main target. However, that was probably more a function of him learning the offense in phases than anything else.

At the beginning of the 2006 season I posted a thread about team chemistry. http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/11491-argument-team-chemistry.html#post160731. Some thought it wouldn't be that much of an issue. I said I would reserve judgement until the fifth game or so. I think you can chalk up our defensive failures in 2006 to numerous things, but the one thing that concerned me going in was a lack of chemistry.

This year I'm banking on a healthy C.Griff in rotation with Golston, Montgomery and a splash of a healthy Salave'a(sp). Throw Andre Carter, who may have found his groove, and your sack total could jump quite a bit.

I'll say this too, even if we fielded the same exact defensive players from last year, no way in hell we finish ranked 30 again this year! As critical as I've been of Gregg Williams, I have enough confidence in him to believe he won't field the same mediocre defense again in 2007.

So here's what I see: A) Modest upgrades on defense B) You get some healthy bodies back C) Gregg Williams will make some adjustments and fine tune things. We haven't even discussed the possibility that guys that dragged ass last year will bring their A game this year, like Rogers, Taylor, Griffin, etc.

Now this brings me to Calvin Johnson. Clearly the best WR in the draft - clearly. Perhaps, pound for pound the best available player. I think he could have more impact at his position and add more value as a long-time Redskin, than any of the prospective DL could have at their position for a first round pick. Bottom line, this guy could be a game changer. I highly doubt any of the defensive lineman drafted has that capability right now.

Let's throw this last thing in there, if we draft Calvin Johnson, is it conceivable that we could upgrade the defensive line via a trade for either Randle El or Lloyd? I mean c'mon if Archuletta is tradable, my God, how much more are ARE or Lloyd??

At the end of the day it's all a gamble. Nothing's a sure thing in the NFL.

At the end of the day it's all a gamble. Nothing's a sure thing in the NFL.

First of all, no team would trade a solid defensive linemen for wideouts like Lloyd or Randle El. D-linemen are just too valuable in this day and age. Some even put them right behind franchise quarterbacks in terms of the hardest things to find in the draft.

Counting on Griffin and Salave'a to stay healthy would be like depending on Dom Deluise to guard the breakfast bar at Shoney's. Just ain't gonna happen. Why people are so willing to give those guys another shot at stopping the run is mystifying to say the least. We saw what they did. It wasn't pretty -- and unless they've discovered the Fountain of Youth, another year on those bodies only increases their chances of getting injured more seriously and more often.

I agree here. None of these d-linemen look like they are going to be stud's. As far as production goes you would have to go with Gaines Adams.

I vote draft him and keep him. I wouldn't be upset if the Skins traded down IF there is a Ricky Williams type deal offered for the #6 pick. If you have him you can in fact present a freakish offesive threat to opposing defenses. There would be no more stacking 8 in the box. No more double teaming Moss or Cooley because there would be Calvin johnson out there too. I understand that he could become a bust but anyone drafted could and if your going to live in hindsight then don't draft at all. The defense does in fact need to get younger but if a guy who is 6'5 and runs a 4.3 40 then you might want to think about bringing him in. Campbell would have a receiver to grow with professionally. The Redskins need a big WR out there. I like who's there already but they seriously a big receiver is something that the Skins should have out there. No more troubles in the redzone because you can throw the ball up and he has a good chance of coming down with it. If he turns out to be as good a receiver as he was in college then he may end up drawing a double team or two himself. So you'll have to pick your poison as a defense. Is it going to be Moss, Johnson, Cooley, or the run game.

I know the "smart" thing is to trade down or draft defense but Eff that ! Take that monster and make your offense even more dangerous than it already is. Williams needs to coach. Get Ian Scott in here, find someone in the later rounds because it can be done. I know it's not a guarantee but what actually is ?

Carter = 28
Griffin = 30
Salvae = 32
Daniels = 34

That's not a bad argument there. They're not geezers par se, but It's definitely a position that needs some more paying attention to. I would say that it probably exacerbated the defense in lieu of all the injuries. We can't afford to go without d-line help, period. Good Post.
