Well, there are a lot of differences between Rob Johnson and Matt Schaub. I don't think that was a good comparison.

Schaub completed 67% of his passes in 32 starts at Virginia. That's very good. However, he wasn't espicially highly sought after coming out of college.

We can either say:

1. The scouts were wrong. They simply overlooked this guy.
OR
2. Schaub's stats are a product of his college system.

I'd put my money on the former. Al Groh hasn't exactly pumped out QBs since Schaub left.

Schaub can be very good, and I'm almost certain he will represent an improvement over Carr. But he's NOT a sure thing because of his draft position. He's got a lot of stuff to prove to the scouts who didn't give him a top two round grade.

Rob Johnson, on the other hand, was a talentless QB. Everyone knew that but Wade Phillips.

I tend to agree. I watch a lot of UVa football and what I still remember about Schaub was that while he ended up being good his last two years at UVa, VERY GOOD, in his first year as a starter he was an unmitigated disaster. I mean terrible. And not just sophmore playing on a bad team terrible. Terrible like he didn't look like he'd ever amount to anything. Then all of a sudden he grew a little and his arm got stronger and voila the kid was probably the best QB in the nation over his final two seasons combined. I think that horrible first season stuck in some minds and probably devalued him a lot.

Also the long term success of UVa QBs isn't that good.

Shawn Moore-did nothing
Matt Blundin-did nothing
Mike Groh-did less than nothing
Aaron Brooks-the most successful-eeck!

I don't care about his college stats. Look at his professional stats. He is below 50%. I think one game when he filled in for Vick he was 17-42. Guy played terrible. I understand he does have some upside but two 2nd rounders and a 1st round swap? That's way too high. Plus what have the Texans done to upgrade the o-line? Texans have NO CLUE what they are doing overpaying for an unproven QB.

You're point about the o-line is spot on. I don't care who their QB is they still can't protect him. That'll matter more than who the QB actually is.

their front office is a mess. last season they could have taken home grown vince young. then they sign carr to an extension. now, instead of waiting on draft day, and hoping quinn falls to them, they give away alot for shaub? he hasnt proven anything so far. and statistically last season carr was pretty good. their o line was downright horrible.

I would much rather take a chance on a rookie QB.You can say Carr has had a hard time in Houston.Point still is he hasn't been what everyone thought he was going to be.I would put money on the Raiders getting Russel.

Rookie QBs are players that need time to develop, unless your name is Vince Young. If the kid has no one protect him, he can't pass the ball. I feel like Carr has just become a scape goat, for an overall bad situation. I don't think it matters who you put back there, Houston is gonna be awful until they shore up that leak.

I think the Raiders will get Russell too, I was just addressing the point you made about unproven/underachieving players

that move was really suprising to me. I know he was a hot comodity for some teams, but with Patrino I thought he would prefer a pure passer if Vick isn't working out. I just dont see Vick being able to run his offense. He needs to move around to get good passing lanes due to his size and Patrino's offense is more for a stand in the pocket QB. I thought Schaub would have given Vick a run for the starting job. Personally, I trade Vick while people in this league think he is a good/great QB. I think the Falcons will never win big with Vick. my opinion.

I kind of upset with this move only because of the skin intentions of moving to the texans position in the draft

That is riducules. I hope the kid plays well. He's going to have a lot of pressure on him. The Houston fans have got to be growing impatient.

:laughing2 When I think of the dumbest organizations in the NFL, the top three that come to mind are Oakland, Washington, and Dallas, but I think the Texans are very close to the top spot with continually retarded moves like this.

Why would Dallas be in your top three?
