Take a wild guess what LB Patrick Willis clocked in the forty at his pro day? It's posted on the NFL site.
4.37 and 4.38!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a freaking animal. Now I understand why he makes so many tackles. There is no linebacker in the NFL that fast. Not one.

man this guy is an animal, we shouldnt have signed fletcher to such a big contract, we shoulda drafted him and bolstered up our d line in FA, we coulda got 3 quality guys for the price of fletcher, 2 starters and a quality backup.
Edit-I think Fletcher is good, I just think this would be a better move, would be more cap friendly, and adress more needs.
Also I think we shoulda traded down because he should be there in the mid round.

which should tell you something.. figure is likely not reliable.. he is fast for certain
also, when mccune came out he was the fastest linebacker in time trials. didnt exactly work out too well for him either..
willis is a football player. he will be a fine nfl player.. that is as far as anyone should go right now

IMO that'd be a crappy plan simply because there were no decent free agent defensive linemen.
I wouldn't want a rookie as the QB of my defense anyway. The MIKE needs to be able to diagnose formations and make calls more than anything else. We have missed Pierce SO BAD in that respect. Fletcher gives us what Pierce did.
Fletcher's athleticism isn't his most valuable asset, it's his brain. The rest of the defense will be so much better because of him.

We don't need him, but those numbers are great for us because somebody is going to pick him higher than the middle of the first round where he was expected or predicted to go. That kind of speed along with his on the field resume has to land him in the top ten to twelve picks. So if we trade back to say #12 we want as many non defensive lineman to get drafted before we pick so we have more of a choice if we trade back.

i really like willis, but we have more, pressing needs right now. we need defensive linemen that can play, in the worse way

I was a HUGE Willis fans and started a few threads about the guy a few months ago. That said, we can't afford to draft him. If we have gotten a FA DT or DE and not picked up Fletcher, I would support trading down to nab him around #10. But, we didn't get a DT/DE in FA and we did pick up Fletcher. I wish I could unwrite history, but I can't so I would oppose drafting him now.

I agree that Willis has what it takes to be special in the NFL, but not with us unfortunately. You cant draft everybody, and he just doesnt fit the gameplan right now.
