what about the 5th round pick?

here are a couple guys I like, though, obviously, i haven't seen as much of them as the first rounders.

(I was asked in a PM, but didn't have enough space to elaborate much).

QB:
5-6 tyler palko (pitt) 56.6%-2392-17-9
6-7 jordan palmer (utep) 59.4%-3503-29-19

best value: (troy smith in round 3-4)

don't think we need either, though palmer might be a good value backup. I don't see us wasting a pick here though.

RB:
5-6 garrett wolfe 289-1900-6.6-18 rush, 26-247-9.5-1 rec

he's a bit small. a guy like chris henry has MUCH better size (230 4.4 vs 190 4.4), but henry isn't a great runner and he's lazy. I think whenever this guy goes, he's pretty much the best value in the entire 2nd day. and even though he may only be a #2 in the NFL, i sure wouldn't mind having him. I know it's not a need and he probably won't be a skin though.

WR:
5 chansi stuckey 64-770-12.0-4 rec, 13-78-6.0 rush, 27-199-7.4-1 PR
5 Brandon Myles 34-536-15.8-3 rec
6 yamon figurs 4.3 speed, great return guy, had a couple 480rec yard seasons.

a few role players, stuckey has decent upside, but can be lazy when he's not involved. figurs is a burner that could be a decent role player with coaching.

OL:
5-6 allen barbre (OT) 6'4" 300lbs 4.84

needs technique work, but shows flashes and has good intangibles (vision etc)

CB:
5-6 courtney brown 6'2" 4.35, 44TT, 7INT, 12PBU

not a lot of experience, but great upside and good production.

FS:
5 john wendling 75 TT, TFL, SK, 3 INT, 3 PBU, 2 FF

good production and measureables, but it wasn't against the best competition.

P:
5 daniel sepulveda (P) 62-2863-46.2, 13 in 20-10 TB, 5 FC
7 brandon fields

either could be a huge upgrade over frost. sepulveda was recruited as a linebacker (230lbs, 4.6 40), also holds on extra points and field goals. no blocks since 2003 (first year). good strength and accuracy (39% in 20, 12% in 10).

fields has a monster leg, but he's coming off a down year (41.6ypp vs 47.9 and 46.2 the previous years). last year he kicked off 26 times.

that's the short list of guys that kinda stuck out, it's still early though.

CB:
5-6 courtney brown 6'2" 4.35, 44TT, 7INT, 12PBU

IMO, this would be a great pick. 6'2 is huge for a CB.

as far as who could help immediately - i think sepulveda would be the starter right after signing and frost wouldn't be able to even keep it close. I think courtney brown could see action immediately, since he'd probably be competing against ade jimoh as the #4 corner, and he'd have a decent chance at winning out there since his speed and size help make up for his lack of NFL experience.

allen barbre has GREAT speed and good vision, but needs work on his technique. he shows flashes though, and with good coaching, he might figure it out in a couple years. MUCH better prospect than wilson or molinaro from 2004. would probably only be 3rd string this year, but as a longer term project, he has a chance to really pay dividends if he puts it together.

wendling and wolfe would basically be special teams players, though wolfe might be able to challenge rock for the #3 RB, not that that'd really make a dent on the overall team talent meter :/. in the longer term, he'd provide a very cheap price/performance backup if we had to trade or drop a running back for cap reasons later on.

we have an overload at WR after moss and el... thrash, lloyd, and patten are pretty interchangeable in terms of their impact on games. stuckey has the most upside, but it'd be hard to prove he deserved to be a #3 with a coaching staff so dedicated to veterans and production that'd probably only equal said vets.

IMO, this would be a great pick. 6'2 is huge for a CB.

as far as winning games, he'd probably have the biggest immediate impact, followed by a punter :/.

Height: 6013
Weight: 200
40 Yrd Dash: 4.32
20 Yrd Dash: 2.48
10 Yrd Dash: 1.46
1st set of numbers from San Jose Pro day, 03/06/07.
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 15
Vertical Jump: 41 1/2
Broad Jump: 10'11"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.07
3-Cone Drill: 7.10

out of those numbers, the vert is GREAT, he's not really 6'2" (6'1.3") but they always round up... reps are decent (the only CB to blow him and everyone else away with chris houston with 27)... the only bad number there is the 3cone. 7.00-7.10 is average, but a lot of good corners in the NFL have numbers closer to 6.60 (leon hall is 6.5, mccauley 6.6, fred bennet 6.6, everyone else (more or less) is around 7-7.1). the best 3cone time ever is 6.45.

again, these drills aren't everything, but they can show some upside.

thanks for the good stuff. if you had your choice, who would you use the skins #6 pick on?

http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-nfl-draft-central/17476-if-redskins-trade-down-middle-1st.html

covered that there in posts #8-#10 with trade downs to #8 or #21 overall.

at 6, if nothing else was available i'd probably take okoye or carriker, though at least trading to #8 or 10-12 would be better since one will still be there at that point pretty much guaranteed.

though at #21 i said i'd try to trade back up... if that's not possible the skins get a bit screwed in having to take a 2nd tier guy :/.

justin blalock (OL), ben grubbs (OL), chris houston (CB), dwayne bowe (WR) and brandon merriweather (S) would all be decent value picks there, but none are DL guys.

the next tier doesn't start till the after the early 2nd with guys like ray mcdonald, tim crowder, and charles johnson, so at #21 you kinda fall in the hole between DL talent tiers, which would suck for fixing the d line.

as for current trash that might make the 53 man roster:
john eubanks (CB) - depth
anthony trucks (LB) - special teams
eric edwards (TE) - depth

maybe brian kozlowski (TE) or nemo (FB) since they've been around, but there's really not a lot there right now :/.

hey...according to Portis, Eubanks is the man hahah

well, as portis IS the unofficial GM, eubanks should be a lead-pipe lock.
