holcknowsbest 03-16-2007, 11:41 PM i love the eric weddle comment....i hear you boss, that guy is a freaking stud and can be had in the second or third round....now we just need to get those picks. i personally think laron laundry at 6 or 8 if we trade with the texans would be an unreal pick, but if we go dline then i take weddle in the second round. my starting line up is smoot and springs with rogers/draft bust as the nickel and then go with taylor and battle it out in camp for the opposite side saftey.

Since we do not have Bly, and I am thinking we won't, I think it will be Smoot #1, Springs #2, and Rogers #3.
If anyone was watching last year, they would have noticed that Rogers does not have the stuff to be a #1 or a #2. Smoot is twice as good as Rogers. Springs has great talent, but is getting old. He can't be a #1 anymore. The 3 combined make a great trio though.
I do fully beleive that Springs would make a great safety assuming we find a viable CB to take his place, but that's a big if. We don't need a run stopper out of that spot, we need a cover guy. We have new blood in Fletcher to help sure up the LB's and help stop the run. What would help us stop the run even better is a DE. The fact that anyone here thinks we need anything out of the draft (minus maybe a guard) other than a DE is smoking crack. We need a pass rusher to help keep the offenses honest and will help our run stoppers.
If we get Bly, you'll find me over in the corner all giddy. Imagine Bly, Smoot, Rogers and Springs (safety or not) then getting one of those top notch DE's in the draft. I would guarantee we would get back to a top 10 defense. I can see our offense hitting top 10 as well, and if both are top ten, well ladies and gentlemen, that equals the playoffs.

Smoot is no way a #1 CB, and I don't think we should give up on Rogers so easily, maybe have Smoot and Rogers share time at the #2 spot.

i totaly agree. no way is smoot going to be our #1 cb, i reserve that spot for springs or bly. smoot, imo, will battle rogers in camp for the #2 spot.
i'm not ready to call rogers a bust just yet. he was ok in his rookie year and was thrust into the #1 spot of an already poor defense last season.
Skins_4_Lyfe 03-17-2007, 11:24 AM I heard from a guy that Springs may be moving to safety. Not to sure about the source so if anyone knows something let me know.
Here's your source...
Redskins, Springs Ponder Move to Safety (http://redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=24549)
DGreene28 03-17-2007, 12:05 PM Smoot may be a better then average cover CB but he is one of the worst tackling CB's in the league. Springs and Rogers tackle very well, therefore Smoot will be # 3... he will see plenty of action however in GW's schemes
stu_nna 03-17-2007, 12:15 PM Rogers is not a bust...He was coming into his own late into the season. With a lackluster pash rush last year any corner would have been victim to a few slants and deep balls. Rogers has talent, and pride. He was burned often last year. This year he makes a statement.
GridIron26 03-17-2007, 01:08 PM I don't know officially, I doubt anyone other than the coaching staff does, but here's what I would do:
Rogers and Smoot SHOULD be starting at CB.
Taylor and Springs at Safety.
Arch would be the Nickelback and he'd blitz a lot when he's in.[/quote]
I like that idea..

Why do you guys think Smoot would not be our #1? Smoot, right now, is our best CB. To me, that makes him our #1. I'm not calling Rogers a bust, he's just not lived up to his potential, and our expectations which were high. He's still a good cb, but when you throw in Springs and Smoot, that makes Rogers our 3rd best cb. This is not to say that Rogers sucks. Many teams wish they had a 3rd CB with Rogers talent.
Yes, he was OK his rookie season. Last year he was not the #1 until injuries put him there. He wanted the #1 role if you recall, and he sucked hard, being "thrusted" there is not the point, he proved he can't handle the pressure. It wasn't until the end of the season when they changed up his role that he did ok again. Our defense wasn't poor all season, our secondary was poor, it was poor because of Rogers not playing well, and getting no safety help. This hurt the overall D like dominoes. But it started with the secondary.
