If the Redskins Trade Down to the middle of the 1st round....

Im just curious, but if the Redskins trade down to, let's say, Houston/Denver(at 8th or 21st) and pick up 2nd and/or 3rd round picks, what players would you pick in their positions(Houston and Denver) for those respective rounds? Then, who would u pick in the first round, considering we slide down a few spots?

Lets see who the real warpath draft guru's are! Remember, before you write anything, do your homework! Some players will obviously be gone by the 2nd and 3rd rounds, so lets try to keep your draft suggestions reasonable.

I'll go first to provide the format, just to make it a little easier and uniform.

Houston Scenario(assuming trade for 1st, 2nd, and 4th round picks for the 6th overall)

1st Round, 8th overall pick from Houston - LaRon Landry - FS - LSU
2nd Round, 40th overall pick from Houston - Victor Abiamiri - DE - Notre Dame
4th Round, 105th overall pick from Houston - Jay Alford - DT - Penn State

Denver Scenario(assuming we get a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd for the 6th overall)

1st Round, 21st overall pick from Denver - Lamarr Woodley - DE - Michigan
2nd Round, 53rd overall pick from Denver - *Eric Weddle - FS/CB - Utah(my sleeper pick ;0)
3rd Round, 85th overall pick from Denver - Quinn Pitcock - DT - Ohio St.

Alright, heres my take

I think the Skins would be better off trading the #6 pick to Denver.

With the 21st overall pick, we could select hopefully a solid D-Lineman. I have a feeling that Jarvis Moss from Florida will be lurking around this pick. Hes not as heavy as the skins would like out of an end (258 lbs at his most recent pro-day) but he has proved himself in his college career in the SEC.

With their second round pick the skins could use some help in the secondary still. I have a feeling Brandon Merriweather from the U could slip around here. After the FIU-UM incident he's seen his stock slip because of character issues. However, the possibility of the Merriweather-Taylor tandem would be perfect for the skins. They would have great chemistry with each other as they would both work out in miami in the offseason.

The third round should have plenty of talent for a talented guard. Perhaps Ben Grubbs from Auburn. He had a good pro-day from what I've heard. He posted an impressive 35 strength lifts. In addition, scouts said he worked out well in position drills. He helped Auburn beat Florida 27-17 in the only loss of the season for the Gators. In that game, Auburn rushed for 133 yards, second most against the Gators' D.

Wow. Well put, but I dont know if i'd go after a guard when we've signed a few o-lineman in free agency.

Merriweather and Taylor would be great back there. We should change our name from Redskins to Hurricanes shortly thereafter...lol

trading to the #8 spot would get us a high 3rd, not a high 2nd round pick with a 4th. and we're NOT taking landry. just not happening. maybe merriweather cause he could really slip.

as far as defending calvin johnson, usually reggie ball did enough damage (by sucking) that no one else had to worry too much about him. really a shame.

I don't really know how a 2nd rounder at a need position is a sleeper pick either.

first two rounds make a lot of sense, but ben grubbs is a 1st round pick. NO WAY he drops that far.

btw merriweather may fall, but right now he's projected to go in the 20-25 range of the first round. grubbs/blalock in the late 1st/early 2nd, landry at around #10 to the falcons.

adams/anderson/branch between 5-10, okoye/carriker 10-15.

and if you really want a WR, even though he's not a freak like CJ, bowe might be there at 21, and he's a pretty safe pick.

just if anyone was wondering.

I'd hesitate on the #21 pick unless springs was going for a 2nd rounder to let the skins move back up a bit in the first (which is still an unsure thing).


if we go to #8 (or stay at 6), okoye is probably the best bet, though signing ian scott (which looks unlikely) would alter the situation and send us looking for a trade down to the 10-14 area (to take carriker) if possible. If that kind of trade down isn't doable (and we do have ian scott), adams or carriker at #6 or #8 is okay.


in the third (texans), some guys to consider (one should be there):
CB josh wilson
C dustin fry
DE victor abiamiri
DE quentin moses
K mason crosby

in roughly that order, though if a DE isn't taken at 8, victor would probably move up that list.

if we move to 21, i'll assume we get denver's #1, #2, #3, #3 and bly for springs and the #6... otherwise i REALLY would not do the deal since anything less would be below market and we do NOT have to sell the pick, which is good leverage.

i'd immediately try to trade the #21 and #53 for the #13 or #14 pick and take carriker there, then use the previous list for 2 third rounders, though the later third could be used to trade down a little and take quinn pitcock (DT) or jay alford (DT) (or just be sure and take them straight up, since the difference is only about 10 spots in the late 3rd/early 4th anyways).
